So - "Jynx" was also introduced to water.  like "Koal" she hasn't had as much halter/leading work.  She did a lot of backing up that doesn't show in these pics, LOL.  I did use a butt rope for some of her work, but for the most part a quick pull and she responded by stepping forward, so not too bad at all.  I led her into the pond.

So cute, all that "high-steppin' "  Looks like she did pretty good for a first timer!

Got a couple of cute pics of "Jynx" today and thought I'd share.

Headshot -

So, she never did shed out her foal coat at all, but that's understandable with how "topsy-turvy" her short life has been.  She is acurly, sandy, "matted" (could easily lead to rain rot) mess right now, but we'll work on that a bit.  Of the 3, hers is the only mane to lay down nicely.

Her hind legs still remind me both of her sire and her grand dam (sire's side).  I'm hoping that she gets a little more development (muscular wise) and that she gets "stronger" in the hind legs.  That said - WOW - she can break level in front when trotting and almost equals that with her hind hooves!  I was so totally not expecting that!

and a month later, she's so round!!!  Her little bum sticks up.  She has wild, high movement - but I didn't capture any of that, LOL.  She had another farrier visit yesterday and then was put into the round pen for weaning.  She and her dam are both lonely - the calling went on all night...  This year is the loudest it's been in years as far as weaning and yet, I've done nothing different other than the fact that the foals can actually reach thru fencing/gates and still nurse (?!!?).  Jynx is the only foal who can't get to her dam (Kechi), who is in a pasture that has no access to the round pen.

O, my.  I just found something for her to "dream about".  Think she could become the other "spare" for Mary Phelp's "Gangstas"????

WOW!  What prospects!  (Mary's pair and spare, at 46" are much larger than I expect this filly to mature.  Think she'll go 40-41".)  BUT it's so nice to HEAR about SHETLANDS going in the big time.

I'm not so surprised about what you say about her movement Paula. I remember a bit of what you told me of Kechi's history, and the injury to her hind leg. Kechi has wonderful, stretchy athletic movement in spite of all that. Combine that with the AJ background and she should be very versatile, no?

Will you be keeping her on as a replacement filly?

Man, I wish she were AMHR, cause she'd be worth "begging" hubby to let me bring her home.  She looks to be all I want, except probably too tall.
