Opinions on show class
« on: January 18, 2018, 03:53:10 PM »
This coming may I will be taking my stallion to amhr shows.i am trying to decide if he should be shown in regular class or if stock classes suit him better.
This show is our first, so it won't matter this time unless we decide to do showmanship. It's all going to depend on how much training I can accomplish between now and the.
My goal is to do color class and liberty this show. However if he does really well I may do showmanship too....
He's fuzzy and out of shape so we have a lot to do over the next 3 months....
I am going to post pictures from when I first got him so you can see his body type better.
Thanks!!

I would show him in regular class if you can get him into shape.  He's really not as "chunky" as stock class horses to me in these pictures, so I'd give it a try.

Right now he's super fuzzy and chunky, so we're going to start working and getting ready!!

Yes, he looks chunky, but you know you can't really tell until you actually can feel them!  He could be really fluffy, but only you would know.   :D

Ok another question.... how long after clipped does it take for enough hair to come back that it doesn't look like undercoat?

Well we started Storms training, so far so good. He's coming around nicely  and  we even got his head and throat latched clipped.  He did amazing!!
Hope his mane grows quickly so it will lay down!!

He's a pretty boy!  Did they cut his mane?  I don't remember it being so short.  Crossing my fingers it grows quickly  ;pray

I agree he is not really heavy enough for stock classes, if he was in shape and the mane was not spiky (thus making his neck look larger) he would be quite refined!

Well I got him clipped today, glad I did, now I am able to see the areas that need work. ( not a close clip as it's still a bit chilly at night, but he's in barn with girls at night)
I would like to build up his top line, no hills so next good option? Would traveling over poles help?

cavalettis are supposed to help with topline, I believe trotting is what is recommended (obviously build him up to trotting after starting at a walk).
