Id love to have chickens , but we have way too many foxes around us. I try to get my eggs from one of the big Markets when Im there. I brought some ( in disgust) from the supermarket the other day and they were the size of quail eggs.  :(

Theres nothing better than fresh eggs :)

I have 3 different coops with chickens!  Really like them.  With the extreme heat this past week, we've gotten very few eggs again - though for a while we were getting so many I was giving them all away.

I get white, blue(more towards light green), "pink", beige and brown eggs from a variety of hens.  I have 4 white leghorns, 2 Delaware, 2 EE, 1 SS, 1 RO, 2 production reds & 1 BA plus 3 bantam hens (white/beige bantam eggs).  Hmmm, I need to go count hens as that doesn't seem like all of them!

I posted a pic of some of the eggs I got in April.  Seems I need to take some pics of chickens again, don't have any from 2017 yet!

Paula, I am trying to post a photo of my chickens.  Actually, I should say my husbands chickens since he takes care of them.  I ordered them from "my PetChicken"  The chicks came in the mail-- us post office. $14 apiece plus shipping.  They are rather hard to come by.  They are French Copper Black Marans  and yes, the breed is from France.  These are the chickens Martha Stewart had on her show.  The chefs favor them because the eggs are suppose to taste better than other eggs.  James Bond used to eat them in the James Bond books.  The roosters are fabulously colored with bright plumage.  I need to try to get an adult photo of a rooster.  The hens are black with a little copper necklace and they all have a few feathers on their feet.  They are friendly, just like the barred rocks we used to have.  They are fast growing and laid eggs three months before normal hens.
my husband built a chicken house and Ryan they are shut up each night and are fenced in , in the daytime.  I started with 20.  But one got out of the box and the puppies thought it was a toy.  Another one had a sissor beak and starved, and an adult hen was picked on and gang raped by my three roosters, it broke her down and it killed her.  I sold 4 hens with a rooster,      and 4 hens with a rooster, for 300 dollars so I got my money back and kept 5 hens and one rooster. The horse feed company delivers the chicken layer food with the horse    food/hay. They all get along now, and are happy  and we get 4 -5 eggs a day.

Those are AWESOME chickens.  Yes they lay one of the darkest eggs.  I started with hatchery chickens and had 2 Cuckoo Marans hens.  They laid the darkest of all of ours.

We don't notice a taste difference in the different colors BUT do in our eggs vs store bought eggs.
