when and how do u feed pellets to foal?

My baby is eating grass.  when and how do u introduce mare and foal pellets to baby?  Someone told me to put mothers pellets in flat pan so baby can nibble too???  I am afraid to give too much.  I don't want him to grow too quick and get contracted tendons like big horse foals.

Mine start eating with mom when they are ready. Usually around 2-3 weeks old. I just start by putting an extra handful in and increase as needed.

Louie didn't have any interest in food until I put some in my hand then lowered it to the bucket - now he fights mom for it lol

I just put in a extra handful and he gets what he gets and mum gets what she gets. The amount he eats is not that much really
