thought you guys might enjoy these!  I had some fun.  I know that not everyone who has foals does this type of handling and that's A-OK with us.  For me, it makes it so much easier to do things with our ponies later...  I've definitely noticed that on ones that have gotten less handling, they are harder to work with!

Think she's comfortable there at the end, don't you?

My daughter and I haven't been out at the same time lately.  She informed me the other day that Chylly is now leading quite well - away from mama - w/o a butt rope.  Yehaw!!  So lovely to know though I personally feel safer w/ the butt/body rope when they are this young...  Just less can go wrong.

This Friday, they will be getting their first hoof trims.  Chylly will be 4 weeks old with Koal and Jynx 3 weeks old.

The two 2015 babies did fantastic with their hoof trims on 20 May.  I did need to use a butt rope on Blitzen - she has backing up to a "t" and it helped hold her steady...

:) - no pic during hoof trim, but this is a rare occurrence, so worthy of note, LOL.

I used to have a great farrier, who would work with the foals from the day of birth!  He would seek out each new little one, and of course, they wound up in his lap, getting their first little "rasp" and handled completely "by a stranger" !!  He would go through each little one each time he came, and with 45 horses at one point he had to come on multiple days, so the little ones always got his special attention.  When it came to a "real" hoof trim, we didn't have any problems!

I just love all your pictures and stories!!
