Katie is a silver dunskin, Digby is a black tobiano...

Shouldn't be a problem there. Many times I bred my 2 year old stallions -- that would be 3 at the birth -- and never missed a single one getting pregnant! I'm sure he'll be just fine!!

My first stallion came up infertile, I finally gave up hope and gelded him at 8. If that hadn't been the case I never would have bought Topper.

I just love Topper, but I also love Dakota. Dakota is such a sweet boy, and there pretty much was no transition from stallion to gelding for him, he's just Dakota.

As to the other - the stallion that I got back (Toro), the sire of our buckskin tobi filly, has been running with 5 mares since March 23rd. Wasn't originally planned, but figured it would be ok. Well, all 5 of those mares keep coming back into season! Thinking I had missed a testicle, I was checking him after his hoof trim on the 20th. He does have both testes - but the one is significantly smaller and "rides" high in the scrotal sack, so I'm wondering... :( . In all actuality, I will be glad when this fella is castrated. He's been a major pain in the behind since he arrived back on Feb 19th. At least now, I can catch him again - though only when I feed. Can not walk up to him in the pasture like I could before he was originally sold as a 2 yr old or like I did his sire (anywhere - anytime)! We'll see if any of these mares end up in foal. They won't be exposed to any other stallions.

Meanwhile Kate returned to heat yesterday! Good news! Kates foal gone, and we will start working on getting her back under saddle! I am super excited!

Excited as all the other tests done on her were negative. She is 80 days today!!

Seems quite early for that so I am going to be watching her. Makes me wonder if she is in foal to diggy the pinto stallion instead of Legacy after all. Crazy mares!!
If she's bred to diggy then she's 280 days. Only time will tell.

But all that really matters is that baby comes to the ground safely, and we'll be happy just to have a perfect delivery -- even if there are no SPOTS !!

Can you post a picture of Diggy?

Last night Katie ended up with a torn area next to her vulva. Part of it sliced into her vulva. It's bad but not terrible. Decided not to stitch as the swelling is keeping it closed. Udder doing nothing today. Bad weather so she's getting barn rest.

Its not active bleeding, hoping that it doesnt start once the swelling is gone down. I am not doing to much to it right now as the dried blood is protecting it, I plan on cleaning it really good tomorrow and putting more ointment on it. Thankfully it doesnt seem to be bothering her to much.

I am going to look back on previous pregnancy pictures to see if I can determine how far along she is. Also look at udder pics to see about how long before foaling she builds an udder.

Her udder started approximate 30 days prior to foaling.

Yes, definitely a miserable place, probably got it butt rubbing and scratching to alleviate pregnancy discomfort.

On the other hand her belly is dropping and udder feels even a bit meatier.

Make sure that her vulva lips will still lay together tight, especially if you want to breed her again, to make sure to keep any extra fluids or other from getting into her vaginal area or all the way to her uterus. If not, consider having the vet "re-open" the cut spot OR doing a Caslick's procedure like you might on a big horse. You can open a Caslick's easily for breeding or foaling - if desired and to save a bit on the vet costs. If it appears to be healing ok for now (as it does), I'd leave it alone until after she foals, then see how all the "parts" fit, after any swelling from the birth has gone down.

I've had one cut her self horribly - I was "afraid" to take pics and didn't have simple digital cameras/pics then. Photo developers were sometimes horrified by the pics they had to develop from us, LOL! But that mare healed fine - in time to produce a HUGE filly - and then got bred back, too.

Thankfully as the swelling has kept going down it looks more normal. I am concerned about it splitting open during Foaling. Hopefully all will go well and if needed I am sure my vet can help.

Udder feeling about the same meatiness so no huge growth. But belly is getting bigger and lower.
Her girlie bits are almost completely healed and except for a small scar tissue it looks normal. At least every thing seems to function properly.

Post by: Holly on April 24, 2017, 10:41:37 PM: Settling into her stall in the evening for the night. Just in case, I will be stalling the ponies at night. Gives her time to relax and get used to the Foaling stall.
We took a lightning strike so had to order new barn cams and video converter. New cam is up still waiting on the video converter. Should be here in a few days, then we can be live again.

So far she has had 2 silver smokey black fillies, 2 silver bay fillies. I am really excited to see what she has this time. I havent tested her so not sure what her genetics are other than we know shes not homozygous for Agouti or cream. Possibly homozygous black, ( as she produced 2 black based foals bred to a chestnut) she could be homozygous silver, 4/4 silver based foals,
Legacy we know is LP/n Patrn 1 /n , bay or black. hetrozygous black, as Ive seen his red foals.

Last night Katie had some crunchy brownish dried discharge around her vulva, so she may just be starting to loose her plug. Her tail head is relaxing, and I am starting to see a wee bit of lengthening and puffiness in her vulva. I do have her stalled and on camera at night if anyone wants to peek in. I am pretty sure we still have at least a month to go, but given she was with another stallion I think it wise to watch just in case.

She is so low. Not as wide but still not slab sided.

Once the next big change happens I will be doing every 2-3 hrs...
Its hard to tell on camera but she dropped a bit and is less wide... But not quite slab sided. She's out today and has had some good rolls.
I think she's going to do close to her norm which is 330 days.
But as per my usual.... I am watching just in case!

Foal presented one hoof and nose so went in and found second hoof easily. Quite an easy birth for Katie.
Placenta took a bit to pass but was slowly making progress. Passed on its own.
Foal found milk bar easily and is nursing wonderfully!
No name yet working on it!
