Title: Willow
Post by: Carly Rae on November 08, 2017, 05:35:18 AM
Hi!
A few days ago when grooming Willow I spotted that she had a large udder, and lately she has been very big in the belly.
I've been keeping an eye on her and her udder is getting bigger. However, we are thinking it could be a phantom pregnancy.

In April this year we thought she was ready to foal, then she got laminitis pretty bad and the vet said the foal would have died.
Its been 8 months since then, and she is showing signs of being pregnant.
I did have my stallion Toby and thinking back I had him tethered to a post a few times (on a long rope) and there was an electric fence that wasn't on, he would walk straight under it into the paddock to eat, and the other horses would hang around him, so he very well could have bred her then. But that would have been after she got laminitis. So she would only be 8 months pregnant. Which is why we are thinking it could be a phantom? But I am still treating her as though she's pregnant just incase, and I am being very cautious not to let her on green grass to trigger another bout of laminitis.

What do you all think?
The first 3 photos are from the 5th of this month.

Well well!! She certainly has an udder going on. Her belly looks dropped to me. Its hard to say if its phantom or not without being able to touch her in person and without having a pregnancy test done. But being that you do have a stallion on the property anything is possible! I would be preparing for a wee one just in case!

I'd have to agree, that udder is certainly there, and you know those boys!

I think you're wise being prepared, and taking care of her as if she's pregnant.  Certainly could be!

Keep us posted, and we'll be praying she stays healthy, and that a new little one is on its way for you!   ;pray ;pray

I also agree and think your doing the right thing. I just bumped her old thread so we can compare Pics.

Like in the last thread, I dont think she is massive , but that is certainly a big udder she has going on there, so being prepared that she is pregnant is the best way to go.

I cant stress enough to limit her grass intake at this time. Pregnant mares can trigger laminitic episodes.

Fingers crossed theres a little one on the way :) ;pray

Congratulations on how she looks, Carly!! I must say, you've done a fantastic job of getting her into a nice condition. 🙆🙆🙆🙆🙆🙆.

I figure that by the time you read this, you'll probably be updating with an announcement. Either the foal is here or you're dusting off the sleeping bag.

You've been with us for quite awhile, and aren't as green as you used to be. Trust your instincts, keep her in this great shape, gather up you foaling kit and get some sleep while you can.

Blessings from your friend in North Carolina.

Julie

Just got a text from Carly to say that the other day she felt the foal kicking.

She took her mum out this morning and they could see the foal kicking without even trying to feel for it.

What does everyone think ?

I say that belly looks pointy and at, or a bit in front of, center. Fairly slab sided, with a bit of indentation beside tail. Mostly full bag with a bit of wax and milk. Very inward looking eye.

I say, don't go anywhere. Pull up a cot and a thermos. Saying prayers here for an uneventful arrival!

I agree too Julie, Carly is keeping a very close eye on her. That belly is definitely dropping compared to the last Pic.

She looks like she's been rubbing and leaning....look at that bushy tail!  Boy has that point gotten pointier and more forward. Bag looks good and ready.  Her expression, even while eating, is very preoccupied and inward focused. Much more pronounced than it was in the last pictures. She's definitely ready any day now.

Here's your prayers for easy and safe foaling!!

If I get some pics off Carly today I will post them. Carly is at 'Schoolies". Whats "Schoolies" you ask. A place where school leavers go to "let their hair down" :)

Sorry yall!! I have been a bit out of the loop with daughter in law Dr appointments.
I expected to see a foal announcement. Is she milk testing or just waiting? I think she will see one last change in that udder and belly shape before willow foals.. though it could happen quickly and could be missed.
I pray for a safe dialing and healthy foal!! Best wishes and can't wait!!

Im back!!
Sorry for being gone for so long and thank you so much Ryan for posting while I was away!! :)
Our internet has been a bit temperamental lately and our computer's fan died so we had to replace it. I also had my last exams and graduated from school, and like Ryan said, I just spent a week at 'Schoolies' with 2 friends which was really fun and I am so glad old Bug held off foaling for me till I was home!!  ;D

She still hasn't foaled yet, however her udder is large, her vulva is super puffy and relaxed and shes very touchy. Shes constantly swishing her tail and doesn't try pull her tail back down when I lift it like she normally would. Shes been rubbing her butt on fences and has rolled a few times.

BABY IS HERE! !!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D

Around 9pm Willow had a little filly, born on my Nan's 70th Birthday!

I had fed her before dark and she didnt eat she was wandering aimlessly and rubbing her butt so I was thinking she was close. I checked her at 8:30pm, she was just standing around still hadnt eaten, went back out at 9pm and she was cleaning off her foal.  :)

The foal is healthy, already trying to run around and accidentally kicked poor Willow in the chin. She has had her 1st drink and I have left them to rest, almost midnight and I am off to bed now too. Will post pics of her in the morning  :)

Thank you all so much!  ;D
All I have to say is that she's not even 48 hours old and I can already tell I'll have my hands full with her! Best way to describe her is 'Attitude' haha!

She's got that buck button, touch her back and shes bucking non stop! Honestly its super cute now, but very soon she will be too big to allow it. Our friends had a mini foal living on our property a few years ago and they continued to let her buck when you touch her back till she was fully grown, lets just say the outcome wasn't pretty on their behalf.
Moo also doesn't mind to give mumma Bug a kick too, I feel sorry for Willow. She also likes to try give you a little bite.

But other than that Moo is to die for and so little! She would have to be our smallest foal yet!  ;D
