This colt brings me joy and sadness!  I may just be keeping him... to remind me of the Legacy he is continuing, as well as producing beautiful foals!

I agree.  He wouldn't be here if you hadn't found his daddy, and fought so hard to identify him, get his papers and get him in the breeding pool again.

This little one is a Legacy for sure!!

Ok so for his Registered name... Do yall like  Leave a Legacy or Left a Legacy better?

Leave a Legacy is my vote.

And little Legacy and his momma are quietly snoozing!  So cute!

I, too, vote for Leave a Legacy.  It gives a salute to his hard won heritage. If he remains a breeding stallion, it also reminds one to make those decisions wisely.

Diane! I shaved his head and he has spots on his skin on his head!

Think of a fewspot as a "fewspot leopard".  If you shave him down to his skin and get him wet, he will have spots everywhere -- just like a leopard, but they will only be "skin deep".  That's one of the tell-tale signs of a fewspot.  They are only spotted on their skin -- not their coat, although they may have one or two spots that you can see.  But get him wet....and you'll see hundreds of spots!

When people go to sell fewspots, or what they call fewspots, I always advise people to have them clip the horse down, wet it and take a picture before buying.

Here's what I mean.  This is "Snowy" a fewspot leopard.

First dry, then wet down.

See what I mean?

I can see the difference! And I see that Legacy has speckles some are still showing with colored hair. Some spots are skin black with white hair. I am excited to see how he changes as he matures. Do you think he will eventually become solid white?

New pictures... I really like this colt. Today we shared scratches. He is shy so this is a first. Sassy doesn't try to kill me anymore. She lets me near Legacy now which is very nice.
I have a few more pictures to share.

How's he coming along?  I see from the test results that they state he will have CSNB.....have you noticed that in him? Or will you have the vet out to assess him?
Title: Re: Sianas Leave A Legacy
Post by: dcwolcott on September 17, 2017, 09:13:02 PM
CSNB is very easy to deal with.  I had several horses with it, and it doesn't prove any problem, as long as you leave a light on somewhere for them.  I always left a light on at the barn, and made sure they were in a pasture close to the barn.  I had several brood mares with it, and kept them in a stall at night longer than I did for the other mommas without it, just to give the little ones a good start, and keep stress away from momma wondering where her little one was.  Then I had a small pasture right up near the barn where I kept the mommas and little ones for at least a full month -- basically until momma wasn't worried when baby left her side and wandered away.  By then, they had bonded and a short call from momma brought baby running back.

It doesn't hurt them at all, no additional problems, just a nuisance in making sure there is a light on so they can see at night.  A small chore when you have these special appaloosas for breeding stock.  What they can produce is worth any slight thing you must do to keep them happy and safe.   ;D

Hi y'all. I have to say I did notice when both my LP homozygous foals were born this year. They both seemed to have more difficulty in the dim light. I always have my barn lights on so as there grown it hasn't been a problem.
I have some new pictures of Legacy to share.

Yes, sometimes those young boys can think they're big boys.  But I know you'll teach him those important manners and the need to treat you with "space".  I had 14 stallions here one time, and all had wonderful manners after being taught that even though I wasn't a "stallion" .... I was STILL their boss and the hierarchy started and ended with me !!
