Title: Snickas
Post by: Carly Rae on August 04, 2017, 08:51:49 PM
Hi!

Snickas was bred last year, although I'm kicking myself for not recording the date she was covered... All I can remember is that I counted the months from that day and I estimated she was due September this year roughly.

Shes almost 6 years old, and last foaled early last year.

It might be too early to tell, but just in case. Shes looking big and reuses to let me touch her belly around her flank/bag/udder area which is very odd for Snickas, usually never phases her. She doesn't have any udder development yet.

She had been running with my stallion Toby since Texas was weaned In September/November? Dates are very rough, but she went in season and she was bred, and I dont think she ever went in season since. But I'd say the September due date is the most reliable to go off, as I'm just estimating the others.

I really hope she is in foal, I sold Toby last month, which leaves me with 3 mares and one gelding. So no more babies for me!
Toby is with a lovely lady in her 50's who treats him like a king, although the poor bugger got the snip last Tuesday! So no more babies for him!!  :)

Photos of Snickas attached.  :)

Oh, she's in foal, no doubt about that, I believe.  That's one low belly!

She's looking lovely and in good condition.  Very excited for you!....and us!

I guess preggers too!!

YAY!!!

This makes me so happy! Hopefully everything goes as planned and we get one last foal! Hopefully a pinto! And hopefully a filly  :)
Toby is a palomino pinto, his dam was a chestnut pinto. Snickas is a brown? pinto, I dont know if there's a special name for her colour :) So I hope baby is a pinto!

Anyway, I'll pop back in when she has some udder development!  ;D

Chances are good you will get a pinto. Hopefully a filly too. Looking forward to updated!!

Slab-sided, dropped belly.....I vote preggers too. Wouldn't it be a shame if she foaled a cremello pinto?? LOL Then you'd get the spots.....but wouldn't see them!! ROFL (Yes, I'm aware that she couldn't have a cremello unless she's a smokey black...but it's possible! )

Glad you dropped in to say hi Carly, I was worried about you! (Thanks for poking her Ryan.)

Yes, some of the fading blacks can certainly be smoky blacks, which would give you that cream gene to throw!

Do you know what color her parents were?
Title: Re: Snickas
Post by: Carly Rae on August 07, 2017, 05:31:59 AM
Haha!
That would be a shame! Although what ever colour or sex baby is, Snickas and I will love it just the same!  :)
Thanks Julie, everything is all fine here, just got very busy  :)

Is Snickas a smoky black pinto? I think I have once asked somewhere along the track but I have forgotten :)

Morning Carly Rae!

About how far along did you think she was again? Has there been any developments in the milk bar area?

Nice to hear that To you went to a good home, and got the big snip. Sounds like he and his new owner are planning many happy years together.

Post by: Carly Rae on August 17, 2017, 04:29:15 AM
Thank you! Shes getting a big tum! I think shes about a month off foaling, but its a rough estimate. She has no development in the milk bar yet, I have been checking her every day in hopes of seeing some development!  ;D

I was very happy with his new home, and his new owner is keeping close contact with me! She calls me up for a chat sometimes, our chats can last up till an hour, she loves to hear my about stories about him. And since Snickas' foal is Toby's, she is going to come over for a visit to meet it, shes only about 2 and a half hours away and shes never seen a mini foal.  ;D

You know, now that you have said that Ryan, I realised I haven't taken many photos lately, well hundreds on my phone, but I haven't done much proper photography!

Here she is today, the photo is on a bad angle, but its kind of the angle I look at her and boy is she getting fat!
Still no development in the udder, but yesterday her vulva was very long and swollen. It's not as swollen today, so could it have just been pressure on her back end from the foal or something?

Carley... just a thought, was she pastured with that colt? and if so how long?

She was in the paddock with him from September, maybe August last year, all the way up to June this year . Whys that?  :D

Oh! Hang on, what colt do you mean?
If you mean in my previous photo, that's my mare Willow with her.
The only possible horse to cover her was my colt Toby that I recently sold, besides him I only have mares and one gelding  :)

This is Toby.

Sorry Carly Rae....only *flappy, flappy, flappy* right now.

I did go do a search on her pregnancy with Meadow (from another forum.)  Nine days before she foaled, there was no udder.  You posted a picture the day before she foaled, and she had a decent bag, but not a big one like the majority of mares do. Last time, it was the position of the foal that changed most during that 9 days, with bagging up and elongation during the last 24 hours.  So don't be surprised if she does that again.

If she were mine, I'd take pics from side and rear every day, to track her progress.  Then when she bags up, I'd be sleeping outside with her. >:D >:D

Teeeheeeheeeheeheeee!!!!  I think I got it!!

Haaahaaahaaahaaahaaa!!!!! *dancing banana emoji!!*

I did, I DID get the photo moved over!!  So that was her bag 24 hours before she foaled. You had no bag in the 9 days before that.
Title: Re: Snickas
Post by: Carly Rae on August 29, 2017, 04:58:56 AM
I'm fairly sure she had an udder for weeks prior to foaling last time, then like you said she had no bag for a while then she had a bag again and then she foaled not long after? I think. So would she still be a few weeks off foaling or could she be closer?

She has some development today!

Thank you!

Does anyone have a rough idea on how close she could be? We are getting anxious because we have a holiday planned soon, and really dont want to be away when baby comes (although we have horsey friends and knowledgeable neighbors to be there for her if need be). :)

I've also noticed her doing a LOT of butt rubbing.
I mean to the point where she completely snapped a star picket. It was probably a bad time for me to properly straighten the fence panels in the pens, because she has bent them all again... Yay for me. Not. :)

Here's an update on Snickas. Last night she had a lot of pressure on her hind end, and today her udder is a bit bigger.

First photos are from last night, then some from just now.
Title: Re: Snickas
Post by: dcwolcott on September 04, 2017, 08:02:22 AM
She has nice elongation, her udder is nicely filled, even the nipples.  From the back shot it looks like baby is still a little wide, but that can change very quickly with some good rolls.  Can you get us a side shot so we can see how baby is riding?

I don't think you will have long to wait if she continues to move ahead so nicely.

Praying for a safe and uneventful delivery of a healthy little one!!   ;pray ;pray ;pray ;pray

YAY!!
She is SUPER grumpy today... I have Today and Wednesday off, its Exam block and I have no scheduled exams till Thursday so I can be with her.
Her udder is bigger again today, and she looks narrower from behind. I have decided to keep her up close now so she cant go down the back paddock out of our sight.

Any more thoughts? There is also a side shot for you  :)

Good Idea keeping her close at this stage of her pregnancy, If she needs you , you need to be able to get there fast.

Her udder is continuing to grow. Keep a look out for her to be waxing, but she is getting close now so keep a close eye on her

Would be great if she can fit in with your exams and studying  lol

Also you have my mobile number if you need anything :)

Do you think shes close as in days close?

I leave for our family holiday on Saturday and Im deciding whether or not to stay home for her. I dont like the idea of leaving her in the hands of my nan, who is not confident around them, and Tenae who is half an hour drive away, because if anything were to happen it might be too late before she gets here.

Id love if she would just foal before friday, that way I can make sure her and baby are good and healthy before we leave and Tenae and nan can care for them while im gone... But I think thats a long shot.  :(

Post by: Ryan on September 04, 2017, 09:19:42 PM
Shes getting very close , how close I cant say.

If i were to have a "guess" Id say within the next week , but you know too well ( having foals already) that my "guess" could be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off

My cousin is waiting for her foal to drop and she is two weeks past her due date. She is a Maiden though.

Now probably not what you want to hear , but if she was mine and being this close, Id be staying home . I know you are looking forward to your holiday , but you will have plenty more holidays in the near future im sure.

I haven't seen any rolling, although when I went to see her this morning she had dirt all over her as though she had been a lot.

Shes not much of a roller, and generally if she lays down its only on one side and she just has a bit of dirt on one side, however this morning she had dirt all over her, in her mane, and on both sides like she had had a good roll... or ten.  :)

Yesterday I 'foal proofed' the pens so its fully safe for a little inquisitive baby. I'm getting excited, Snickas on the other hand doesn't seem so excited, she's been such a grump lately.

******GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!***********

So this morning we woke up at 5am to leave for our holiday it was still almost fully dark . We looked out and Snickas was still standing.

Then about half hour later my pop came up and said "You know yous have another horse out here"

We ran out, and there stood Snickas and her newborn chestnut pinto filly!
Shes exactly what I wanted! And for our very last foal I couldnt be happier!
Shes been suckling all morning without a problem, and done her first poo. Shes running around like a little maniac, very active little baby! Mumma is happy, healthy and eating, and very protective of her baby.  :)

I haven't thought of a name yet though.

We have just left for our holiday, i really didnt want to leave but my accommodation has been paid for ect.

But not to worry, my nan and uncle will watch them like a hawk, Tenae is going to visit every afternoon and give Snickas and baby some love for me. And If anything goes wrong, our neighbour is willing to help if they need, he breeds race horses for a living and would know more about mares and foals more than I ever will.  :) Im going to get daily updates and photos from Tenae, And before I know it Ill be home to spend my whole 2 weeks school holidays with them!

I really want to post photos but I am on my phone and it won't let me. Does anyone have an email adress I can send a few photos to so yous can post them for me?

WOW, can't believe I get to be first to say congratulations!! What a lovely surprise to receive just before holidays. 💖💖💖💞💞💞😍😍😍

Is her little hiney roany? Or is that appy spotting? Or just the way her pinto markings are?

Post by: dcwolcott on September 08, 2017, 08:38:53 PM
I was wondering too, and congratulations on the healthy birth of a little tobiano beauty!!

Those white spots are a bit suspect to me that there might be some appy genes somewhere in her pedigree, and we are seeing some special SPOTS!  I guess they could be just pinto spots, but you know I am always looking for appy!

She's quite the cuties and we're so happy for you!!

I sure will be glad when you get home from vacation. I'm dying of curiosity about SPOTS!! I don't see appy characteristics, but those tell-tale rump spots have me thinking pintaloosa.

And whose "beak" (what we lovingly call a dog nose) do I see to the far right of the frame in that last picture?
Title: Re: Snickas
Post by: dcwolcott on September 13, 2017, 06:31:29 PM
Yes, I was thinking of pintaloosa, too.  Can't wait to see her blow that foal coat, and see what's hiding there!
Title: Re: Snickas

I'M BACKK!!! ;D
I'm keen to know what you all think on her colour! I have started her a thread in the 'Follow our growing foals' section and i have posted a few pics of her bum colour to see what you think!

In the last photo that is my dog Lacey's nose, she loves foals only for the fact that they are horses without teeth and they give her good neck nibbles. But as soon as they grow teeth its a different story  :)

Thank you Ryan for posting the pictures while I was away!  :)

We're having a good time guessing about possible appaloosa spots on her little hiney!  They look like spotty spot spots to me.  :-* :-*
