Title: pretty teeth...
Post by: Chanda on June 28, 2017, 07:07:26 PM
Monday was dental day.  everyone got checked over, half needed a basic float.  [We missed last year, as her travel schedule brought her here when I was out of town for family issue.]
Manny has two really crooked incisors, but as he is a gelding it's not a big deal.  He still had a baby incisor hanging on, so it was removed.  Other than that, the rest were basic floats and they have pretty good teeth.   Even the old man only needed a basic float.
Spotty was a complete butt while she was here, and he stirred up the whole herd, so he's probably going to get gelded sooner rather than later.  I have no plans to raise tall appies, so I don't need an appy stallion.
It was a bit windy, so that probably stirred them up a bit, but they also seem to know when something is up...

There is nothing worse than "one" stirring everyone up. Ive got one  that likes to put on a bit of a performance for the farrier and if I dont move her away from the others , everyone joins in.

OMG!  Spotty was acting so randy on Monday, he was jumping almost everything in site, especially poor Manny who got really worked up because of it.   Yesterday and today, he was back to his normal self; full of energy, but more respectful.   I really need to get to work with more halter training, they know the absolute basics, but don't really have good manners.

Poor Manny.  Hard to deal with a young "upstart" !!

Digging up an old topic, but same stuff, new year.
Today was dental day.  Love my equine dentist, she is a friend too, even if I only see her once a year when she travels through.   She is the best.
Did 11 horses today, so most of the herd.   Did the saddle horses, as they haven't been done in quite awhile, not much more than basic floats.   Most of the minis were just fine, 4 horses and the donkey didn't need work; and poor little Che` has a shit storm in his mouth, his teeth are just crap and while I've taken care them since he's been here, he probably never saw a dentist before I got him at around 14, he's 22-24 now.

There is nothing better than an equine dentist, except for maybe an equine vet specialist.  I was lucky enough to have both at one time, although in our small area, the vet moved on, while the equine dentist came from Texas, but always came through Florida, and he was fabulous!  So many people forget about teeth and the need for dental care for their horses.  What a difference it can make for good health for a horse!

How was spotty this year?
Well, he didn't stir up the others, so that was good, but he didn't want to be caught.   He's only two so just a check.
