Title: A neutering we will go...
Post by: Chanda on April 04, 2017, 01:36:43 AM
B2, Siamese house cat, about 8 months old is scheduled for 8am neutering at the vet clinic, Tuesday morning.  I had a meeting in town today, so took him down this afternoon, and he'll be able to come home after 2PM.
so, just for good measure, B2 (the cat), let me know what he thought of his trip to town for neutering... He got car sick, and puked and then pooped in his kennel, so I had to pull over and clean up.  Bagged the stinky, and when I got to the clinic asked if they had a place for "toxic waste disposal".    I remembered after the incident, that many cats ride better if their kennel is covered.  After the incident, I covered the kennel and he was fine the rest of the way to town; don't think I'll forget to cover for the ride home.

Sorry B2, but this is a necessary health task!  Sorry the trip went so awkwardly at first!

At least boys recover very quickly, since their surgery isn't as invasive as spaying a female.
Since I'm on my kindle, I'll try to remember to load a picture when on the computer.

Absolutely, and I always have my cats neutered, especially the boys that live in the house.  Better cleanliness, less smell and no spraying!

Picture of B2 from January, so he's a bit bigger now.
He's home, and he doesn't seem to notice he's missing bits...

Such a pretty boy!  I love the Siamese and have had several in my life.  Right now, after the loss of my Flame Point, I rescued a Lynx Point Siamese boy -- with no "parts" !!

I also am an avid fan of neutering/spaying cats. Unless they are top pedigree breeding cats, that don't leave the house, they don't need the sex organs.

Why B2 for the name? He looks very lovely...is he a talker? Does he like water? My grandmother used to breed Siamese. Her cats were very talkative, and liked water. Her main sire, Ching, would even come to the river and swim with us. My favorite thing to do with him was to go fishing. I'd bring and inner tube, and he'd drape himself over it. Then we'd put a rope on the tube, float him over a shallow pool where fish were resting, and wait for him to jump in and catch them!

We  had our Siamese, Blue, for 9 years; he had somewhat poor health from the start, and we lost him last June, he never seemed to fully recover from his dental the previous Oct or Nov (vet cleaned his teeth and had to remove 3 rotten teeth).  He was just never the same after his dental.
Anyway, we thought 4 house cats were enough, so we weren't looking to add a cat, but there was a litter of barn kittens last summer and one was Siamese (other two black; mom is Siamese).  Come fall and cooler weather, Shayne was like "bring him in at night", that lasted all of about 4 nights, until he was in 24/7 and named B2, as he was Blue Too.   He came in the house the first week of November at 24 oz, he is now about 8#.
[These cats that I call Siamese, I don't know if they have true Siamese in them, but they are all pointed.  Most are just standard brownish points, but there is one flame point (I think that is right, he's dilute red), at least one lynx point (I think maybe two actually, second is harder to tell as he has white markings too) and one is grey point.]

Sounds like they must have Siamese in them some where to get that color pointing!  They all sound really pretty!

Letting you know that way is so not fun, though!

Yea, B2, welcome to the rest of your life.  It should be a long and good one.

I missed one question...
Yes, he is a talker.   His predecessor, Blue, didn't talk as much.

I LOVE the "talkers"...  LOL
I do up to a point; some just squawk around with nothing to say, others seem to have conversations with you.

I've always enjoyed the talkers.  My last 2 Siamese were both talkers, and since I live alone, I always enjoyed being welcomed with a conversation!

This boy, "Oliver" is just now starting to come out of "his" room as he was a rescue, and he's so shy.  I've got nothing but time on my hands, so no problems, he'll come around when he's ready.  He does talk to the "air" sometimes, so I'm looking forward to the day when I can put hands on him, and he comes to my lap.  I'm sure we'll have lots to tell each other!

Five more neuters done.   The travelling vet was out to bull test, so I had her neuter 5 barn toms; she offers a lower cost option for barn cats.   4 are waking nicely, one is still a bit sleepy.   I got Marmalade, Boots, Bitsy, Curly Sue and an un-named black tom all fixed; they didn't even know they were broken.   [Curly Sue was named before I realized he was a boy, his tail curls over his back.]   Curly Sue and the little one, were both the youngest and smallest.   Think I'll leave them in the kennels awhile longer to recover, but will move the kennels back over to the barn; the feed shed is warmer than the shop.

Oh, that's good that you didn't have to carry them all in to the vet.  Very nice!!  I love that Curly Sue name -- tell him we think he's very handsome! (with a little snicker!)

His tail doesn't curl as much over his back as it used to, and he lost the time to frost bite, but it still curls, so hopefully, I'll be able to continue to tell him apart from the other black barn cats (they all look quite a bit alike).

Chanda - we had a litter born to a calico barn cat that was 3 orange males, 1 orange and white male & 1 grey white male.  The one female died w/i a few hours (runt?other issues?) but the boys thrived!  Our daughter wanted the grey/white one, but I didn't know until I'd promised him to Vicki (who still has him).  So she took the orange/white male - leaving us with three that looked almost completely the same and if you saw only one at a time, I could not tell them apart.  I would have to dig thru pics - I don't know when they were born - 2010, 2011 or 2012.  The pics I have in online album start in 2013 - as fully mature cats.

Trying to name them & identify them was almost impossible.  Standing in the feed store, trying to decide how to do so, I FINALLY bought 3 collars - red, blue & black.  The 3 musketeers became - Mr. Black, Mr. Blue & Mr. Red.  We replaced the collars a couple of times as they grew - we know the 1st blue one broke at the plastic keeper.  Thankfully, they never were w/o their collars at the exact same time, so we knew who was who at the time,  :P

In 2013, not long after I started the new job at the Spay Neuter Clinic (they had done the boys' surgeries at least a year previous), Mr Blue was struck by a car in front of our house, but didn't die.  He was pretty badly injured and I took him to work with me fully expecting them to either put him down or let me off work that day to send me to a vet that could take care of him.  Neither happened - both vets that day are cat lovers - we did minimal intervention (very affordable) - fluids, a drug added to the fluids to reduce brain swelling (can't remember what it was - in ponies we've used DMSO), a antibiotic in his one injured eye.  It was touch and go for a couple of days - he lived in a card board box and went back/forth to work with me - so that his eye could be treated every few hours - he was very friendly - always purring and most often the techs would take care of it before I got to the back.  Even the one vet, allergic to cats but 1 of whom had chosen to see how he'd fare, would check on him - getting him to sometimes purr loud enough u could hear him up front!  Then he was fully eating, using litter box and enjoying his time in the house.  His eye took over a year to fully heal BUT he can now see fine.  Then final intro back to the "wild"...  You can't even tell he'd had a smashed head or a severely injured right eye anymore.  We caught it soon enough (I think I heard him get hit as I was leaving the house to go to work) that the few drugs that were used worked their magic along w/ cats' amazing recovery abilities (u kno - those 9 lives and all).  :)

In December 2014 while in temporary quarters (they were in a covered 10x10x6 chain link dog kennel) Mr Red got out a last time and neither the property owners (Vicki, pony friend, & her hubby James) nor we saw him again   :'(  .

But Mr. Black & Mr. Blue are still our outdoor cats here in our new place.  They lord it over the other outdoor cats - sometimes literally fighting with them (2 spayed females) and even tear into each other now and then.  Mr. Black, believe it or not, usually takes the brunt of the beatings - wounds and stripped skin - while Mr Blue usually ends up the unscathed victor.
