Title: Kate 2017
Post by: Holly on March 10, 2017, 07:08:02 PM
 :o
Kate hasn't started her heat cycle this year. I noticed her last heat last October. November I figured she went out for the winter. So it's been about 5 months, and nothing. The years before I bred her she cycled through the winter. I just thought first year out of pregnancy, systems change.
So I saw her peeing caught it, tested with the P Test and guess what....... POSITIVE for pregnancy.
The only guy she's around is my 31 inch stallion. She is 13.2 hh.
Pregnancy test to be repeated in a week. I am in shock.

I've had more than one, that way, tho I'd have to calculate to see if the size differences are the same - actually I don't - you have a much larger size difference!

The largest mare that ended up in foal to a 45" stallion was 13.3hh and WIDE (later we covered her with supervised covers from a ramp and it was amazing how he could "hug" her with his forelegs - 5 fabulous foals from that cross!!) and another mare was 13.1 and stallion was petite 40".  Previously she'd produced foals from that cross from a ramp as well and we thought since he was a very shy breeder that we'd be OK turning them out together, LOL.  That was a really nice cross as well. I have her 2nd daughter still and looking to breed her to the son of the first stallion - probably next year...  Won't be a registerable foal with ASPC, but would be a pinto.

Congrats!  We get to see a 1/2 welsh, appy baby that should be a wonderful sport type pony!!  NOW THAT is EXCITING!!

I'm always excited to see SPOTS!!!

And just to let you know, I've had several experienced taller mares actually squat down to be bred.   ;D

Thanks y'all. I am sure the resulting foal will be lovely. Though I am still in shock. I am going to repeat test as soon as I can collect urine again. I guess 2 positive results may convince me she is indeed in foal.
She had a mini foal the first time we ever bred her. It was on purpose and we used a hill with a drop off from help. That stallion was the same size as Legacy but was solid black. We had a beautiful filly.
I will keep y'all posted.
I did go out on an evening ride with Kate tonight. It was so beautiful.

We're in San Antonio, hunting hogs for vacation. Sitting in a blind as I type. Sorry can't update on all mares today but Kate came into heat the day we left to come here. Great news for me, lol!

Well, don't know if this is raining on your parade or good news, but...  I've seen mares show signs of heat through pregnancy.   Not sure if it's a true heat or hormones or what.    My AQHA mare was backing up and swishing her tail (squatting and winking) at anything that looked her way while she was pregnant with her first; I preg-checked her and she was pregnant, she foaled at nearly a full 12 months gestation.

Lol y'all! I think because I collect the urine from ground maybe it effected the pregnancy test.
She's never shown heat during pregnancy before, I've foaled her 5 times, course there's always a first.
I will know for sure in a few months!!
