Post by: Holly on August 14, 2016, 02:57:47 PM
Been trying to order a WeeFoal 120 and can't seem to access the sight to order anymore...anyone having this issue, or know what's up?

I can still get them via hume equine services. UK.

But since a MUCH cheaper alternative came on the market, my guess is they are just not able to compete.

Personally i like their tests much better than the new cheap ones - and would pay the x3 price for it.

Yes, I know some people swear by them.  Sometimes cheaper isn't BETTER!

What is the cheaper alternative?
I did order 10 more P Tests from Emlabs, I am going to see how well they work following the directions closely. , Just want to follow up with a wee foal 120. But can wait it out if needed....

I think those emlabs tests are the cheaper alternative, some found them to be inaccurate, but I've not tried either so don't know.   and, weefoal is cheaper than USd or blood test by vet.

I can't wait to hear what your results are.  I think there have been some mixed feelings about them, so it will be interesting!

I have a $1-two-ninetyeight question:

Has anyone tracked the difference in accuracy in miniatures vs. biggies on either of these tests? I know that in humans, if you test early on, that it's recommended to re-test after a length of time has passed. Do the equine tests work the same way?

Good question! I would assume that the growth hormone rises just like the human growth hormone but  not entirely sure!

My understanding in layman's terms are that estrone sulfate rises slowly in the beginning but sharply after 90 days when the fetus  takes over. Then it starts to drop end term allowing progesterone to take over. (The fetus fetal gonads or fetal placental). That's why the test for estrone sulfate is indication of a live foal as if the foal dies in utro the estrone sulfate drops quite rapidly.

I think the accuracy of the tests would be the same except perhaps maybe in miniatures it may take a wee bit longer to reach the same readable levels although that could very well be false

Thanks for the explanation Holly! I was wondering about it taking longer to reach readable levels. Back when I worked on the breeding farm (last century! LOL) Harlan used a teasing stallion, and nothing else. Poor Pegasus....I always felt so sad for him. He did all the work. Are the mares in? Out? Ready today? Still in foal? He was very accurate, but in my short time there he never got to breed even one mare. Only his National Champion dad did that.
