Title: Bleh!
Post by: Chanda on August 09, 2016, 07:09:46 PM
Need to finish up staining the house, but the weather and interruptions have slowed me down.   Down to the last side of the house, the east side, so afternoon work, to not be staining in direct sun.  I got a gallon on yesterday, it was a bit windy, but coming from the other side of the house, so somewhat protected, I only did what I could reach from the ground.   Today, I was going to do the ladder work, but the wind switched, and I hate ladders, so no standing on a ladder in a breeze for me.
Just can't seem to get motivated to do much of anything.  I need to halter train the babies, they've only had one lesson.  I need to finish staining the house.  I need to get a quilt finished by the first of September.   I need to trim some hooves.   I need to deworm everyone.  I'll be driving my mom to an out of area doctor's appointment, waiting on the scheduling (only thing good about it, it's in a town with a TSC, so I can stock up).   Eventually, it'll all get done, but I'm not motivated to do any of it, right now.   Perhaps it's the heat, which isn't horrible, but warm for us.   Mostly it's just me having no giddy up; it'll come back eventually.

When you live on land there is almost always a list of things that are waiting or need to be done. If I am ever feeling the lack of "giddy up" I usually go and spend time just sitting  with the horses. They usually take my mind off things.....

Maybe have a "Chanda" day , grab a book and sit down and relax, something I am sure we are all guilty of not doing enough of :)

Boy, is that well said, Ryan.  Sometimes just sitting and spending the day with ourselves, is the best therapy.  If you have little ones, it's also a good time just to be around them, doing nothing.  I used to do that, and read my book out loud so they got used to me in their paddock, the sound of my voice, and just my presence.

Have a good day of rest, Chanda.  Hopefully, it will do you a world of good.  The chores on a farm are never done, there is always something that needs doing, but it will be there the next day, so just rest and enjoy a little down time.

just rest and enjoy a little down time.

I sometimes do that a little too much.
Going to have lunch with Mom tomorrow.

Chanda, I so admire you! You really do so much! Its wonderful!

Yesterday I trimmed up Breeze's hooves, she had high heels so had a bit of work to do to get her on the corrective path. Blistered my finger in the process , but thats ok, as long as ponies are happy and healthy!

I have one to trim tomorrow, she has high heels too.  I picked her hooves today, so really got a good look at what she needs, and it might be a bit tough.
I get blisters almost everytime I trim; especially middle and ring finger on my right hand, and there is one spot on my left hand (will let you know tomorrow where they show up, if you really want to know).

Made pineapple angel food cake tonight, found the recipe on FB.  It's quite good.

Take a box of Angel Food Cake mix (just the contents of the box, no need to follow the directions on the box), & combine it with a 20 ounce can of crushed pineapple in its own juice.
(No need to use a mixer, just stir it with a spoon) When you do this, something magical happens.
The mixture starts to froth & it turns into an amazingly airy, fluffy bowl of deliciousness right before your eyes.
 Once it's all mixed up,grease and simply pour it into a 9 x 13 cake pan & bake 350 for 30 minutes

Use a long handled spoon, it really does froth.  It's pretty tasty, good angel food flavor/texture with a nice touch of pineapple.

Would probably be good with a basic glaze on it, too.  [could be too sweet for some with the glaze, but I think I'd like it.]

It is easy and like regular angel food, the top gets fairly dark.

Almost finished staining the house.  I still have the second coat to put on the cat walk, and I've noticed a couple spots that I missed.  Oops.

Well, not the outside of the house, but same type of work...
Shayne finally took time to finish up the windows in the house, all the wood trim needed to be measured, cut and put up, and he got it done.  So, I've been staining and polyurethaning all the wood trim.   7 windows and 1 door all stained; and, today I got the last coat of polyurethane put on.  Today, I also got the first coat of stain on the one new section of ceiling trim done.   I'll need to touch up the wall paint, soon, so I can put the house back together (much of the furniture is pull away from the walls).   Then I'll paint the trim in the two bathrooms, just white in a nice oil-base paint to be more water resistant and match the rest of the trim.
Looks like my blue window blinds will it the new living room windows, so they can be reused; but the other blinds that I saved are not the right size for any window, so will need to replace those blinds and install, eventually.  For now, I'll continue with the spring rod and a piece of fabric in the windows that need some kind of covering.   No valances or curtains, I don't want to cover the nice wood trim we just put up, so just the blinds to block the sun when necessary

I got the high pressure hose out to wash off the back and front deck as they both need to be stained again before the good weather vanishes.

Ditto the porch here, but I'm not looking forward to the staining in the heat here!

Our little deck is hopefully going to replaced with a concrete pad, sooner rather than later.
