Whilst she is not my mare , she will foal at home in the next couple of weeks. Her due date is today. 29/8.
I was hoping the first foal born at home would be mine, but it hasnt worked out that way. What i am determined to do is help get this little one into the world, safely :)
-
I can't tell in the pics, so what breed? Is it a mini? I can't tell size in the pic.
Can't wait to follow along.
-
TB :)
-
Sounds less stress than mini foal watch. ;)
-
Hello, nice and round momma!!
-
She has the waddle to match too :)
-
I'll bet! HA!
What's her name, Ryan? Can't just call her "she"....
-
Prayers for a safe foaling!!
-
Sorry all ive been so busy. "Hippie" as we know her here is doing well her udder has doubled since my last lot of updates. I took some photos two days ago, so promise ill take some tonight or tomorrow if I dont get home before dark and post them to compare.
I did put in a special request for a delivery on the 4th sept (which was yesterday here) as this old boy turned 40 :) Thought that would be one unreal present.
-
Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
Hope your day was grand -- even without the birth.
Come on, Hippie!
-
Happy Birthday!
Sorry Hippy didn't give you a birthday gift, but glad she's progressing.
-
Happy birthday!
-
Thanks Everyone :) Had a ripper day !! Saw Fleetwood Mac in concert :)
-
Oh my!! Glad you had a great day!!!
-
These were from last night :)
-
Still lookin good! Come on Hippie! We're waiting to see your surprise...
Ryan, do you know who the father is or what color we can expect this baby to be?
-
The father is chestnut :)
-
These were from last night. Im really starting to notice a changer in her stomach. Shes holding her tail a lot higher as well.
Whats everyones thoughts ?
-
Certainly getting her "V". She's still wide at the bottom and it's hard to see the nipples and what they're doing, but they look separated. Are the nipples filled?
Looks like she's moving right along and it won't be too long.
Has her character changed any? Remember, sometimes they become quite different in character as they near delivery.
Can't wait!

For some reason every pic I take of her udder is either blurry or hard to see. The center crease is starting to disappear. This morning (8:37 am here as im typing this) She was stomping feet and her tail was swishing around.
-
This was from last night
-
Definitely looking serious!
-
Got home last night and she was waxing.
On my last check at 5:30 am this morning I found this :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
A beautiful little Filly
-
So cute!
-
Thanks, she has so much personality :)
-
What a pretty little girl, and so "leggy" -- just perfect!!!! I'll bet her owners are over the moon!
-
Congrats shes a beauty!
-
Decided on "Aria" :)
-
Trust me to arrive late in the day with my congratulations! What a super little filly - do you think she might 'grey' out? Oh and a very belated Happy 40th Ryan x
-
Add another belated "HAAPPY BIIIRTHDAY...YAHOOOO!!" shout and hug from me too. *hug, hug, HUG!*
She is a nice looking filly. I understand the bittersweet feeling because I know how you'd looked forward so to the first foal being your own homebrew. That's okay though. Now you have some of the foal watch kinks worked out of yourself and can make plans for that special foal. O:-)
-
Thanks Anna :) Yes I reckon she will Grey out :)
Hi Julie :)
-
Little "Aria" was a month old over the weekend here :)
-
What a little cutie.
-
She's growing fast - any idea of her final height? How big are her parents?
-
She's a pretty "little" girl with some BIG ears!! But very feminine looking for sure. Lovely face!
-
Not too sure of the sires height , Mum is around 16 hands.
She does have quite big ears , she is slowly growing into them :)
She has quite the personality and when she sees me coming, they both Winnie and run over to say hello. Hippy is a lovely mare and such a good mum !
-
Yes, babies always have to grow into something, and she has such a pretty face! She's grow just fine. It' nice that momma is such a good and friendly mom, I'm sure baby will be just perfect, too!
-
Wow hi belly!!!!!!! Get that baby out you!!!!
-
Hi Ryan!!
Just checking in for an update on Aria. Is she more in proportion to her lovely expressive ears? Has the dry, dry then heavy wet for a minute affected your pastures enough to make things difficult for Hippie to keep her well fed? Or are you depending mostly on hay now?
-
Sorry Julie I didnt notice your post on this thread until now :)
We were really lucky int he fact we had some good rain that has kept things growing. I am stocked with hay now, just have to get the lucerne when needed.
Aria was weaned on the weekend , Hippy was starting to show she'd had enough. Hippy handled it much better than Aria did.
