If you didn't catch the topic on the LB forum, I had a nice surprise arrive on Friday morning.
She's BRIGHT red & white - and with the freaky weather, along with a movie marathon that brought up some different names, she here got her name.
"GG" was born in 2010 and went to all my driving lessons with her dam starting at 19 days of age. She has turned into a dream of a driving mare as a pair, though she does pull single to a cart as well.
"GG" had "Chylly" on Friday morning - will be registered as LP Painted Chyllydown W. Chilly Down is also a song by David Bowie done in the movie of Labyrinth.

Gwen is at the butt & Grace is at the head of this little girl. Neither girl is used to doing this and both were a bit unhappy with Gramma "making them" hold the pony baby...
But then Gwen got into it on her own when I laid "Chylly" down in her lap and positioned Gwen so that she could hold the filly by herself while stroking her in long strokes and "GG" checks to make sure her new baby is ok.

Larry (my hubby) gets into it a bit, too, before he goes and collapses in bed (these 12 hour shifts/6 days a week while union is on strike are getting to him!!).

Then Yoshi and Sierra arrive from opposite directions and OMG, the boyfriend who was scared of the ponies last fall - is holding the baby!!!!!!!!!!!! and touching the mama, too!!!!!!!!

I'm expecting KoKo to go next - also in foal to Wizard. I'm actually going to go check her again shortly.

These are the shots I took right before leaving for Iowa for my Aunt's funeral. The only 3 shots. Then I will take some more tomorrow as I haven't gotten any since I've been back (other than her sticking her head in that shot with "GG" and "Chylly" above).

Then we have Kechi - a pony that I sold in Dec 2013 and she is back as of February and she appears to be in foal to the stallion that was to have been gelded.
Kechi is a cremello that we brought back from the brink of death at 6 weeks of age and nursed thru several illnesses the first year of her life. Got her "little highness" started in harness before selling her - she's gotten into some very bad habits while gone and haven't tried hooking her yet. Figure that will wait until she foals and we'll go from there. Our youngest granddaughter is thrilled to have her "unicorn pony" back - and we may have Kechi going under saddle for her as well this summer.

This was her 2nd hitch in Jan 2013. She's still a little unsure when the cart makes a lot of noise or when a tire bumps up over objects such as a flake of hay...

This is Toro (LP Painted Toro). We sold him in 2013 as well and he's back. I don't yet have good pics of him... He's gotten several serious "come to Jesus" type workouts as his manners were downright dangerous when he came back. He still needs more work, but it will come. Nothing like the "non-hormonal", laid back and well mannered colt that I sold. He is moving much better these days than I remember him moving and he should both work under saddle and in harness.

Toro is a foal out of the 2nd and 3rd Shetlands we'd owned. He came after I'd sold his dam in early 2001 and then purchased her back in 2008. Magic and AJ were both 19 yrs old when Toro was foaled in 2011...
His sire is "AJ (WF Action Jackson) and his dam is "Magic" (Magic Place Resida). They were both Skye's riding ponies until she outgrew them and moved to first an Arab mare and then a NSH mare. Both were also used for giving riding lessons (I don't have any pics of that, unfortunately) and Madira showed Magic western (Skye had show her huntseat) at some of our local open shows.

Madira rode him too, though this is the only photo I have of her riding him now. This is June 2001. YES, he was our breeding stallion while the girls were riding him from 1995 - 2002. I leased AJ out for breeding from early 2002 thru late 2003 and by then the girls had outgrown him and he was driven on/off for several years. Then he went to a couple of open shows - presented in Hunter pony style (2005 shot below).

He even drove as a pair a handful of times, he was much bigger than the mare he is pictured with her - but they made it work...

Magic's pics -
Between 35-40 rides here w/ Skye. We'd picked her up over Valentine's Day Weekend down in Florida. Boy could this little girl BUCK. She got air time above my head! The first few times Skye actually got on her, I held her and jerked her off if it looked like a wreck. We all calmed down, then up again... Later, when Sierra rode her and her little legs were high on her sides and "tickled her" - Sierra hit the ground two miles from our pasture and Magic took off. Circled the tobacco barn where our gear was stored just outside of our leased pasture and with her nose in the air, tail over her back - dashed all the way back to Sierra (walking by then) and let her get back on... That DID end up being the first AND last time Sierra rode her though, ;D . Magic is the only pony to have thrown Sierra (our pony jock w/ the velcro butt).

Yes, Magic is in foal to AJ for their first foal together (Pixie was a blk tobiano that sold as a yearling into a NH barn that did lots of kid lessons & community activities).

****************
AJ & Magic were laid to rest - together - in June 2012 at the ages of 20 years.
So, this Toro/Kechi foal has a lot of history to live up to in our family. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what we get.

I just love all these pictures and appreciate you giving us their stories!
So Koko and Kochi are the upcoming girls, right? And I believe you have given the 'order' for babies with lots of white this time? Your new little one is just beautiful, and can't wait to watch her grow!!!

Those were beautiful pictures of Koko! Just beautiful, I hope you will post them here!
-
So I seem to post one place & not the other! :o
Here's pics of KoKo the other day.
Also handled her and checked her udder last night. Being a maiden, her udder seems tiny, but I did get clear, non-sticky fluid out of both teats. Haven't unpacked the milk tester yet (have no idea what box it ended up in when we packed out), so not testing it. Figure maybe a week or so?
-
OK, that's weird! It's like there is a step missing in attaching the pics. I couldn't attach them in the body of the post like before? Ah well, they are on the post, so...
So no foal today and really didn't seem uncomfortable at all last night.
-
Such a pretty momma to be!

Yes, direct attach to post, they are just shown below the text. To type between, they'd need to be linked from another website like Picasso or whatever.
-
I'll let Marty know. He's so great at figuring out things!
Koko is so pretty, and I can't wait!
-
I figured out what I did wrong with the pics, was me, not the forum. I usually attach using the "Pic" icon and bring them in thru a URL. That time, I attached them from my computer and it's just a little different then what I was used to with two other forums. NO WORRIES!
No baby this am, for which I'm glad as I've been dealing with a stomach issue off/on since about 3:30 this morning. Not pleasant at all... getting ready to try to go back to bed for a bit - that may be difficult since I have our two granddaughters and they will soon be waking up. Hopefully, this is something just affecting me - not really prepared to help them thru it, too :(
In between "loo" visits, I was "playing" with some history blog posts for our first pony. Would love to have you guys check them out - especially the AJs Foals (https://lppaintedponys.org/2016/05/11/pony-history-ajs-foals/#more-1476 (https://lppaintedponys.org/2016/05/11/pony-history-ajs-foals/#more-1476)) one as there are lots of links to either photo albums or to pictures and "another eye" or two is helpful with checking to see if they work and there are no repeats. It's taking a while to do some of these - Word Press and tables "argue"... May end up going back and doing the Produce Records on the mares' pages the same way as AJs Foals - lines up correctly!
Gotta run...
-
I think it is set up beautifully Paula! You did a great job!
Hope you get feeling better with your tummy issues that is no fun at all!
-
Well, moved Kechi into the round pen with the other two last night. They did quite a bit of trotting around and "tussling" to figure out who was who... Didn't think anything of it...
Even got pics of udders (not good ones) and told the girls' I was thinking KoKo would foal this weekend. Kechi ?? Didn't know.
.........
Checked last night on them - around midnight we had severe thunderstorm move thru. All OK...
Lucky 13???
We now have not 1, but 2 new foals...
And KoKo's new son IS NOT by Wizard. He would be by Echo...

This little boy is a sturdy and strong fella. Mom is a great mom, but is not real happy about human intervention with her "kid". Almost made me think that we'd never worked with her, even though we've worked w/ KoKo mega bunches since she was 3 months old herself!
and we do know that Kechi's new filly is by Toro, as he was the only stallion on the previous owner's property... Wasn't expecting her for another month, but other than some weak legs (backwards knees - they will strengthen), she seems to be OK.

This little girl has some leg straightening to do and needs to unfold and get stronger. I took the pics before she'd nursed more than 1x - I was a little concerned about her. We are going to build a 2nd pen now - to separated them a bit...
-
WOW!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! "Someone" heard about the orders for white on the foals this year. They are both just beautiful!
SENSATIONAL !!
-
Congrats!
If I could talk hubby into it, had funds and a way to transport; I think Kechi's filly would have to find her way to MT. [Although, mine have to be AMHR registered, so I don't know if that is the case or not.] I'm wanting a buckskin filly/mare. [I have one mare that can produce it for me, if she doesn't throw her silver and he gives his bay, so buckskin comes this time instead of smokey silver black.]
-
Congratulations!!! Just beautiful babies!!!
-
Yes, she sure is a looker!!!
Keep us posted on how she grows!
-
She has the longest legs!!! Just beautiful!! She ought to be up and fine within a very short time. It's amazing how they gain strength and the legs straighten in just a week or so of being out and walking around with momma.
I had a little one whose legs -- actually the knees -- bent in the whole wrong direction, and within a week, his legs were beautifully straight, although I had to do a bit of trimming of those long toes!
-

Unfortunately, I don't think she will stay small enough to hardship at 3 yrs of age. Her dam is petite, but she did FINALLY hit 40" and pretty sure that "Toro" is larger(41" + ?). Of course, she might be smaller, we won't know until later. But none of the ponies in her up close pedigree are mini sized or registered as minis.
Any time someone wants to work something out, I'm sure we could. I do travel to MT now and again - though it has been awhile.
Hoping I don't have to make the trip anytime soon, actually, for the "wrong reasons", but mom isn't doing so well since her twin sister passed in April... She's back in MT, my sister is staying with her, but I understand that she's in a funk. I can certainly feel for that - as I was too when I returned to NC after my Aunt's funeral.
Kechi was tiny for a very long time. She still "looks tiny" - but she now wears the same size halter that most of the rest of our ponies do and the little headstall that I braided just for her when we started driving her - doesn't even come close to fitting her now. She's got a longer head that is narrow while the other ponies have slightly shorter heads that are wider at the eye/jowl than hers. Still a pretty little girl, though. IF she appears to be OK, we may try breeding her back to one of our other two boys, but I might wait... Haven't decided yet - since I feel she's not in shape (she lost a lot of weight in the 3 weeks that I was gone and in a funk myself and ponies weren't always fed... - long story, nuff said I suppose... )
Kechi will always produce either a buckskin, a palomino or a smokey black foal. And both of our two current stallions (Wizard and Echo) are homozygous for Tobiano - so the foal would be a pinto.

Thanks, Diane. I've seen those pics of your little guy before and I always appreciate the support.
I will probably not make it into town today for a new pair of nippers, but plan on making the run tomorrow and then will trim both of the two new foals' hooves a bit. Even today, at 2 days old, they are both still wearing their "slippers" on a couple of hooves and standing on their heels with the long baby toes out front. I can carefully fix that for them before our farrier comes out next time.
In the meantime, we are getting lots of pics of them getting their legs and hooves handled!! too funny.
-
I knew there would be a chance of the silver with Bonny having a smokey silver dapple dam, but until Manny popped out a smokey silver black, I didn't know Bonny had silver. Now, if she'll just keep it to herself this round, and hopefully Topper gave his dominant agouti; I'll have a chance at that buckskin.
;pray
-
Hopefully, "KoKo" and "GG" didn't hide the silver too much. Will have to test "Chylly" to know if she's carrying silver and "CharKoal" def didn't get it!
I'll pray that Bonny does not pass the silver to her foal! ;)
-
Sounds good to me, but might need to pray harder than Topper passes his dominant Agouti, so I get a buckskin, even if it has to be a silver buckskin. ;)
-
;pray ;pray ;pray
-
Ditto Diane!!!!!
-
thought you guys might enjoy these! I had some fun. I know that not everyone who has foals does this type of handling and that's A-OK with us. For me, it makes it so much easier to do things with our ponies later... I've definitely noticed that on ones that have gotten less handling, they are harder to work with!

My daughter and I haven't been out at the same time lately. She informed me the other day that Chylly is now leading quite well - away from mama - w/o a butt rope. Yehaw!! So lovely to know though I personally feel safer w/ the butt/body rope when they are this young... Just less can go wrong.
This Friday, they will be getting their first hoof trims. Chylly will be 4 weeks old with Koal and Jynx 3 weeks old.
The two 2015 babies did fantastic with their hoof trims on 20 May. I did need to use a butt rope on Blitzen - she has backing up to a "t" and it helped hold her steady...

:) - no pic during hoof trim, but this is a rare occurrence, so worthy of note, LOL.

I used to have a great farrier, who would work with the foals from the day of birth! He would seek out each new little one, and of course, they wound up in his lap, getting their first little "rasp" and handled completely "by a stranger" !! He would go through each little one each time he came, and with 45 horses at one point he had to come on multiple days, so the little ones always got his special attention. When it came to a "real" hoof trim, we didn't have any problems!
I just love all your pictures and stories!!
