I thought I was long done foaling this year. But apparently I was wrong. My little black mare evidently snuck a date with my stallion sometime last year. I was wondering cause I was going to breed her for a foal next year and she wouldn?t come into season earlier this year. Fast forward to now and I have officially felt foal movement. I?m pretty confident I know when she?s due based off her last observed heat cycle and that I am just now feeling foal movement. I last observed her in heat December 15. Makes her due October/November roughly. So yay for a winter foal lol?.
This will be the same cross from 2020 when I got a tiny black colt. Sire is my stallion who is silver bay tobiano.
Other exciting news?I had been looking around for a nice outside stallion to breed Rhythem to. I found a couple nice ones but most were unproven and I really wanted one proven showing and producing. So I contacted Janet King just to see if she would consider it although she doesn?t normally stand her stallions to outside mares. But she made an exception for Rhythem. So she?s officially going to see Billy Idol early next year! Color does not matter at all to me but I won?t say no to it haha. That will be a guaranteed palomino foal.
-
How exciting for all of us!!! And such exciting news for an upcoming breeding to Billy Idol. Can't wait to see that cross!! You've given us some exciting news of great times to come!! Congrats.
Can't wait to see your lititle girl on camera!
-
Can't wait to see what you get.
-
Can you post a picture of mom and dad please. I know it's too early for the camera, but would love to see them both!
-
Sure, I don?t have a recent good picture of Belle. But I?ll see what I?ve got.
-
Belle, one of her when she was showing as a yearling. Another of her a couple months in foal with her first foal. She?s been a bit of a pasture puff since so haven?t taken any nice ones. Also one of her first foal, also aired by my stallion. As a yearling he?s barely 27 inches. And has only grown 2 inches in the last 6 months
-
Dice
First is when he was being shown as a Junior stallion and then one from this past way when I decided last minute to show him as a 9 year old senior stallion. He hadn?t had much fitting up but I was pleased nonetheless.
-
Beautiful mare, and such a handsome boy! So nice they are producing small, correct little ones!! Can't wait for the new little one to make an appearance!
-
Kinda laughed at poor Belle tonight?foal started kicking so hard while she was eating her dinner that she finally just laid down and rolled. I guess she decided to shake the foal up a bit 😂
I also got one mare confirmed in foal for early next year. I have not been able to get my other mare in foal. I thought she was in foal last year and nope. Then again this year and nope. Oh well.
-
Too funny. Roll that baby around!!
Remember, don't give up! It's not too late in the year to keep trying with that mare. The vet can easily give her a shot to bring her back into season so you can try again. before winter. Good job with your second mare in foal. Is the second mare in foal to your stallion, or an outside stallion?
-
That?s true. I?m starting to think she may not be able to have a foal though. I?ve tried the last couple of years with no success. The other mare is Izzy who had a foal the spring of 2020. She is in foal to my stallion.
-
Never give up!!! I had a mare who was 12 years old with her first foal, after years and years of trying. As long as the vet says everything is in the right place, and there is no infection, keep trying. Once the "dam breaks" I'll be your luck in the "future" will change with her.
-
I very well may. I hate to sell her. In my eyes she?s nice lol. And she?s such a sweetheart. Can pull her out of the pasture having not driven in a year and she?ll drive great. Nieces and nephews can handle her without any worries too.
-
Belle is officially on camera. Having issues keeping it going but I?ll have to sort those out later. She?s a few days shy of 300 by my best guess. Nothing too exciting yet.
-
All working this morning!! YEAH!!
-
Belle is approximately 320 days. She has been super slow about starting an udder but I think maybe that finally changed today. Decent udder this morning, and it actually grew through the day. Still a ways off from a foaling udder but I?ll take it! Having a few issues keeping my camera going but hopefully we?ll bet that resolved asap.
-
I can see her with no issues, and she's up and eating...of course! I'll keep watching. Glad she's moving ahead!! At 320, it's getting exciting!!
-
There she is!!! I've been checking at the wrong times, I guess, because she's been outside and I haven't seen much of her most times. Looking good today! Glad she's been outside a lot getting her exercise, prepping for that big job ahead of her. Can't wait!!! Have a good day, Belle!! ;pray ;pray
-
She spends most of the time outside still. Not close enough that I feel it is necessary to stall her more yet. So basically 7 central standard timing to early morning. A bit later this morning. Kinda depends on my grad school schedule. She?s taking her sweet time. She went 345 last time but I thought she?d go earlier this time. She?s starting to make me wonder. I feel pretty good about the dates I have. Her udder is not serious yet. Kinda sitting at about 25%. Last time once she got serious she built it quickly. Who knows lol.
-
I forgot how long she went last time. Your plans for her sound good. Outside exercise is certainly the best! Looking forward to it!
-
I see she's in this morning. So good to see her. Hopefully she's making some progress for you. Not sure how your weather is there, but here in Florida it's finally starting to get colder -- supposed to be in the 40's on Sunday morning with the highest morning temp on 62 in the next week. Hope it stays warmer for your upcoming wet baby!! ;pray ;pray ;pray
-
Weather is all over the place. Highs often in the 70s and 80s. Lows in the 30s and 40s. Feel bad for my hairy horses. She?s starting to make real progress I think. Udder is probably between a third and half full. That?s definitely improvement lol. She?s made a lot of change there the last 36 hrs. Not getting my hopes up quite yet. I USUALLY let her out 7-8 am. With my school schedule it fluctuates a bit. That?s why she was in a bit later this morning.
-
Hopefully you're able to sleep in today with no school. Are you still working on your --was it your PhD? I remember reading what you were studying, but my brain has left me today.
Belle is looking good this morning. Just munching as she should. You should both rest a little today!!
-
Thank you, I?m going for my Doctor of Physical Therapy. Been a stressful week lol. Belle is definitely making progress. Her udder is finally starting to get serious. Having a tough time testing ph. But Friday morning it was 7.5-7.8. She?s much grumpier this pregnancy. So I?ll probably have to get help to test her in the future. Foal is shifted and I?m feeling movement by her tailhead now. She was very uncomfortable last night so hopefully more change today. Roughly 330 days more or less.
-
I thought I remembered a PhD. Yeah, my brain might still be working.
Belle standing quietly munching, and then looking with her head through the fence. She looks good!! Come on Belle~!~~Can't wait to see what you've been hiding!!
-
Testing 7.5ish now. Udder is starting to look more serious. Everything else is looking pretty close. Just need some more work on her udder.
-
Exciting news !! Come on Belle!!! Wishing a safe and uneventful foaling of a healthy and dynamic little one ;pray ;pray
-
I see Belle is still in this morning. Hoping that mean you are resting a bit with your crazy schedule. Belle looks great and I'm sure she's still making progress. Can't wait to see this little one!!
-
Yes, making progress. All on her own schedule though lol.
-
It always at their schedule for sure. But she'll get it done!! ;pray
-
She?s testing between 6.6 and 6.9 this morning. She?s looking pretty good but still not quite there. I tested her brix on my refractometer. It?s off the charts high. Much higher than even when she foaled last time. I am supposed to leave town for thanksgiving. Obviously not leaving her by herself. So she may foal at the vet if she doesn?t foal soon. I hate to do that but I can?t really get out of my trip and I am definitely not leaving her by herself.
-
That's a perfect choice. She's too precious and her little bundle is too precious to let anything happen to them. Getting even more excited!!!
-
Belle did not hold out till I got home. Foaled a pinto filly at the vet last night. I will update with pictures once I get them home.
-
Here she is. TINY silver bay tobiano. I measured her cannon at 6 3/4 inches. Both are doing great.
-
Very cute. Congrats!
-
What a little beauty, and she looks pretty well put together. Can't wait to watch her as she unfolds and grows. Just a perfect little gift!!! Well done, Belle!!
-
I see that little beauty sleeping while momma eats!! She's looking tiny and perfect !! LOVE IT !!
-
I will get more pictures when she gets a bit older. She has lots of unfolding to do still. Still working on a name for this spunky little girl.
-
Momma and baby sleeping peacefully this morning a few feet apart, but in front of the food bin! LOL
-
Momma and baby both eating. Momma with her head in her bin, and baby under momma's leg!! Beautiful!!
-
Momma and baby both eating. Baby VERY interested in the orange bin. Is that the water bucket? Baby was definitely partaking of something in there.
Also, someone else (looked to be dark color everywhere) was saying hello to both, and looked like they were eating hay in the open doorway.
-
Baby looking more put together, and seems to be in control of herself. Nice and strong. And, by the way, nibbling on the hay. So funny to see momma and baby with both their heads in the hay!
-
That orange bin is actually what I feed grain in. Belle is an expect at removing it from the fence though lol. Still trying to hammer down a name. She?s definitely getting stronger. But more to go though. She?s sweet but VERY sassy lol. I took this picture the other night. 4 days old here I think?
-
She's resting now while Momma eats. She looks so sweet, but you should definitely call her barn name Sassy if she is! Too bad there isn't just a one word name for the Chinese sweet and sour sauce. Sounds like it would fit her. She a cutie and she's looks nice and upright.

I named my paint filly Sassafras, and called her Sassy for barn name, it fit her to a T.
-
Oh, that's a good one, Chanda.
-
Those were actually both on my list! Just needed to find one that matched her. I THINK I have settled on HPR Dice's Silver Belle, barn name Silvie (I think I said this already, but just in case, she is a silver bay like her sire).

I like that a lot.
-
Oh, that's lovely, just like she is!!
-
Cam has been off for the past few days when I've checked. I guess little Silver Belle is out pasture playing. Don't forget us with pictures as she grows, and Congratulations on her birth!!
-
Thank y?all!
So actually I needed to unplug it and forgot to plug it back in. I have monitors so I see them anyway. I?ll try to plug it back in tonight. She?s really starting to unfold nicely. Her foal coat hides just how tiny and refined she is. Still working on her warming up to me. She has a mind of her own lol. I am already wishing to clip her but obviously have a while before I can do that. It?s tempting though because we are still regularly in the upper 70s and 80s. I know the cold is coming though. However I may have to do some trace clips on a few of the hairy ones in my herd. I know they must be hot under 2-3 inches of hair when it gets into the 80s during the day.
-
We've had that crazy temps here too in Florida. I think it's supposed to be from like 83 today, to 87 tomorrow and for the next several days until the 21st. I'm not much of a fan of this hot weather, except with no humidity the kids just love to swim!! With the Texas grandchildren arriving on the 18th, they'll love swimming around with the other 5 for the Christmas holidays.
Keep us posted. I love watching her. She's looking VERY nice!! Belle does a find job, as does daddy!!
-
There she is!! Sleeping away while momma eats...
-
Camera will be done for a couple of days. But back on early next week.
-
Well I am having trouble with my camera so haven?t been able to get it up. Hopefully soon. I?ll try to update here with a newer pic soon too.
-
Sounds good, but we are most happy that it was working while Silver Belle was born, even if she wasn't there. At least all was well for the delivery.
-
New pics finally. Silvie just turned 6 weeks. She?s itty bitty. Trimmed up her chin and underside of her neck just to see her a bit better. Can?t wait to body clip in the spring and see her better.
-
She's darling
-
Pretty little girl, for sure. Looks like nice proportions and a clean throat latch and little arch to her neck. Can't wait to see her clipped either!!
So pretty!!
-
Thank you :)
