Cross your fingers, your toes, your nose; whatever you cross for luck, and say a little prayer.
I'm trying to give Che` a little hand covering Baybe in hopes of a foal for next year. Being he's in his mid-twenties, he may very well be shooting blanks now.
I was so hoping when I bought him his own mare, only 2" taller than him, that he could get the job done on his own, but he gives whole new meaning to hand breeding, and in 6-7 years she's been here he's missed the spot every year, when left to his own devices.
Shayne spotted him giving it the old college try in the pasture, so for the last two mornings, I've tried hand breeding. Yesterday, was a failure; but I think we hit the mark at least once today.
I didn't notice when Baybe came in, so no idea how far into her cycle she may be, but we'll try every morning til she goes out.
Yes, I know it's typically every other day, but since he misses more than he hits, I think we'll be ok with trying everyday.
Oh, and as long as you are praying; pray for a colt that doesn't have his daddy's issue, so I have a chance at a stallion to cross on my Topper fillies.
-
I hope you get the perfect colt!!!

I hope you get the perfect colt!!!
Thank you.
Perfect would be buckskin tobiano (he's silver buckskin, she's red tobiano), but I'd be happy with alive and healthy.
If it happens it would be Che`s second foal, as he does have an 11 year old daughter from a 35" mare (his only foal, her only foal). We managed to get it done with hand breeding. I tried another similar size mare, but she never caught with him (she red bagged with Topper, and I didn't catch it in time).
-
You know I'm praying for that perfect Buckskin Tobiano you've been waiting forever for! ;pray ;pray ;pray
-
Thanks Diane.
I don't remember how we got it done with Caddy, but we got Dolly out of the combination, so he was fertile back then, and with help got the job done. Unfortunately, there's been nothing since.
-
Had to move cows this morning, so missed hand breeding Che` today. Will see if she's still in tomorrow or not. Then watch in a month to see if I need to try again. Hopefully, I won't forget.
-
Don't think I got another cover done, so cross your fingers and toes that we had a good "one and done" and we get one more foal from Che`, at his age now, I think he's done with attempting breeding seasons. so, here's hoping and crossing fingers and toes that Baybe caught, and we can have one more Che` foal.

;pray ;pray coming from me, too! If she did take, do you think you might be able to tell by Valentine's Day?

I'd have to go back and look at dates, but it would probably be later to tell with her, as she's a yak in winter and holds onto her hair; I swear she's pregnant almost every spring, and then she sheds and "the baby" disappears.
-
Sooooo.....I guess I'll dig around in my Herbal Immersion program and find out which hair loss prevention herbs are safe to use on pregnant mares. 🤣🤣
-
Actually, I'd love to see her shed earlier than usual, and keep her belly, that could be a positive sign.

Keep praying.
Baybe is shedding more than any one else at this point; but if memory serves she always sheds early, so might not mean anything. She's a bit spookier than normal, so perhaps that means something. I need to check date on that one good service, so I can get a 300 day date to look for.
-
For sure praying.... ;pray ;pray ;pray
-
After I last posted, she went back to looking less round. So, probably not, but we'll keep praying at least a little bit.
-
Me too ;pray

Me too ;pray
Here's hoping. I'd love one more foal from Che`.
July 14 was one good cover, and July 15 one ok cover; so I guess we start watching more closely about May 15, and hope to see something resembling a baby belly before that.
-
Yes, it would be great to see a Che' baby!!

Here's the only Che` baby, just so you can have a Che` baby fix while we wait on the "maybe baby", from Baybe and Che`.

"Too cute for web".....is a perfect caption!! What a little cutie!!

LOL! [The "for web" refers to file size, it was downsized to fit on groups like LB, which was still very active when Dolly was born.]

Keep crossing your fingers for Baybe. I'm going to hope, but not hold my breath. She does seem to be keeping a bit of a belly, but not excessive, so I just don't know. I know an USd or pee test would be best, but she's not the most cooperative mare, and I can't help but think not likely. She gets ok hay, and a vit/min supplement in a carrier of TC senior.
-
;pray ;pray ;pray I'm praying hard!!

July 14th was my one really good cover on Baybe, so keep crossing your fingers. She doesn't look overly pregnant, but seems to be keeping more belly than usual as she is shedding her winter coat.
If I entered the numbers right in the foaling calculator, that puts her at hopefully 292 days. I don't know what is "normal" for her, as she has not had a foal for me; I bought her bred, but that foal did not make it (very twisted cord, but don't recall gestation time frame, and she was likely pasture bred, so minimal information anyway).
June 9 will be 330 days.
Cross your fingers, and I'll keep eyes on her, I don't have a camera, so need to watch for signs and keep a close eye on her.
-
Fingers crossed and prayers being lifted.... ;pray ;pray

Yeah for me, I'm checking in just in time! Prayers coming from NC as well.
I'm glad to see from another thread that your feed and supplement regime has improved calving over last year. I know you've had difficulties with your hay quality having been so poor compared to years past.
I'll be waiting with bated breath for Baybe to present us with 'Che's Finally Finale foal soon!
-
I sure hope they produce one, but I'm not holding my breath, I don't need to turn blue and pass out.
-
I'm probably way off base, but Tilly's "donkey fat" looks different this year, and I thought I felt movement, but it was fleeting, so I really don't know. Will have to check it out several more times, and see if I feel it again. No idea on timing, as she and Baybe live with Che` every day; he goes in a stall at night, and they are turned out together during the day; but in 8 years, he's not gotten anything accomplished on his own, so probably just wishful thinking.
Nothing new to report with Baybe, so probably didn't catch her either; but I'll keep watching.
-
What a cool idea! I hope you're right, as it would be something really special for us AND Tilly!!
-
Fingers crossed here too :) ;pray

Fingers crossed here too :) ;pray
Hi, Ryan, hope all is going well, as you prepare for winter in OZ.
-
Baybe is almost 325 days, if she took, still looks iffy; but I"ve read several accounts of horses going long this year, so there's still hope.
-
;pray ;pray ;pray
-
we're quickly approaching a year, and unfortunately, I'm thinking it's a big fat NO. I've heard mares have gone long this year, but still not holding out much hope that Baybe is pregnant.
-
I'M STILL HOPING! ;pray ;pray
-
I'M STILL HOPING! ;pray ;pray
I'm trying to have a little hope, as I know they can go over a year, and this year, it sounds like plenty have gone longer than average; but I'm not holding my breath.
-
Well, we can all exhale, we are past a year and no foal. Bummer.
-
Dang! Will you be trying again?
-
At Che`s age, it might now be an age factor as much as anything, so probably not. All my girls aging out of breeding age, and since I can't seem to sell anyone, not breeding isn't a bad thing. Bummed I didn't get a colt from Che`, but I have plenty to keep me busy and fed (especially with the drought this year).
