Title: new computer
Post by: Chanda on January 25, 2020, 10:38:27 PM
I had to get a new computer, since my old one was Windows 7 and they dropped support last week.
So far, I hate it.  My monitor I was using wouldn't hook up to the new tower, so I had to pull an older, dinky monitor out of the closet.
It seems to be much slower, it's like being on dial-up again.
If you don't see me much, you'll know why.

I know I'm headed in that direction, too. I've been working with my IT guy for over 2 months trying to keep this computer functioning. It was especially difficult while I was writing the federal grants as it was giving me multiple fits per day!  Since I know it's not that old, I hope to keep hobbling around.  I like this computer, and know all the "ins and outs" of it, and don't want to learn new programs.

Mine, too, has windows 7, which I love, and although I've worked on Windows 10, I hate it, and really don't want to be forced to use it.  Don't have the $$ to buy all new equipment right now, maybe in a few months, so l keep "petting" this one and telling it what a good computer it is....  LOL

I'm on my kindle.  I have a nasty cold or the flu, I feel rotten, and I'm achy all over.  I haven't felt like being upright, so haven't done much with the new computer.
This time I got a refurbished computer, so cheaper, but I'm not sure yet if it was a good idea.

Well, I'm praying for your recovery.  There is nothing good about the flu or a cold, and with all you do, neither sounds like anything you need.

Get well.  Take care of yourself, and worry about the computer later.  Rest! ;pray ;pray ;pray

I'm trying to rest as much as I can, just wish I could figure out how to bookmark this page, so I don't have to search for it every day.
I able to survive chores for the most part.

Woo Hoo.  I think I finally figured out how to save my favorites.  And I was able to import some of my old favorites from a saved file, but the file was old, so missing some of the newest favorites.
Ok, now I'm going to attempt chores.

I had an old lenovo laptop that I really should have sent to heaven years ago. I finally bit the bullet and brought a mac book last year. It took me ages to get used to it.

Hope your on the improve Chanda :)

Went to doc today. Antibiotics, inhaler and a pill for coughing, plus suggestion to drink Pedialyte, since I've not been eating enough.  Flu.

My favorite laptop is running Windows 7.  I've been afraid to power it up since 1 January, because I've been concerned that it will bomb out on me.

Wish I were still a techno dweeb.  Then I could upgrade to faster processors and download Windows 10.

Like you, I don't care for Windows 10.  It seems like it's targeted more toward touch screens, and to interface better with how their target demographic uses their cell phones. *shrug*

I suppose the upside is that research suggests that learning new thinking skills might slow down (or delay in those with genetic predisposition) Alzaheimers and other forms of dementia.

Never stop learning.  Keep your mind active -- even if your body isn't!   ;D

Managed to get my new computer synced with my old printer, and got a shipping label printed today.
Eventually, I need to see if a couple old programs will load and work on 10.

I hope they do. One of my computers at work had 10, and no kidding, I went back to my old standby at work to hopefully get a few more years out of it -- where I know everything about the program and don't have to scratch my head when things don't work the way I want.  Not looking forward to having to switch everything to 10, but eventually I'll have to do it.   :(

Got my photo program loaded, it's just Photoshop Elements 2.0, so should be obsoletely, but it loaded.  I haven't used it yet, but I think it works.

Well, that's a problem I hadn't considered -- are some of my programs too old ....  scary!

Glad yours loaded and pray it works just fine.  I sure don't want to lose the programs I have or have to invest in updates.  Yuck!

You wouldn't think it would be so hard to transfer files.
Before I shut down my old computer, I loaded my files onto a thumbdrive, or so I thought, but they weren't all there.   So, I've set up my old computer again, got everything on a thumbdrive, see it there, but now I can get it onto the new computer, it won't upload, download, whatever it won't stay there where I want it.  So frustrating.
need to get out and feed, but the wind is blowing pretty good this morning, so not really in a rush to go out there.

I got, but the files are a little deeper to pull up on the new computer, a few more locations to go through to find them, but they are here, and that's what matters, so I can attach as needed.
Only thing I don't have on this computer  is "preview", or at least I haven't figured it out, yet; so I can't see a pic before posting.
Just random pics pulled, now that I can find them.

getting there, down to getting used to Windows 10 and a few minor annoyances.
still need to see if I can load my bookkeeping program, and it's about time to do some bookwork, so I don't get too far behind.  Just need to find the discs, I think I know where they are.
