Title: Homemade Horse Treats
Post by: Ryan on October 11, 2016, 12:08:56 AM
Just wondering if anyone here would have any horse treat recipes they would like to share ?

Maybe a healthy option too ( if there are any) for the IR and laminitic kids that some of us have.

I tend to shy away from apples and carrots as one of my mares has foundered in the past and I dont think its fair she watches the others filling their faces on them.

I tend to stick to Pumpkin as its alot lower in sugar and also makes there coats shine .

TIA Ryan :)

I'm going to have to go digging up recipes.  I know I had a couple for flax treats, as my horses loved them!  I'll go hunting!

I'm pretty sure there are recipes out there that use soaked/rinsed beet pulp and flax, which would be safe for laminitic horses (and IR or Cushings horses); I'm just too lazy to make them so haven't kept track of where I saw the recipes.

Let's hope this pdf works, it's a low carb recipe from the Cushing's group on Yahoo (they've now moved to their own server, as they got too big for Yahoo).

Thanks for the recipe Chandra. I'm looking forward to some other recipes. Partly because I despise "google it" and partly because I trust y'all to give us trustworthy recipes.
