Little update - Meadow is now 10 days old and has two little teeth coming, and is still a rocket. Shes so full of character and so sweet. Her umbilical has still not dropped off, is this normal? Also, look at her wee teeny boobies lol!

TEEF - do they look okay too?

Lovely girl and great name you have chosen for her :)
Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: dcwolcott on July 05, 2016, 08:54:06 PM
Is her umbilicus dry?  Or is there any seepage to it?  If not, then you might try treating it with some alcohol and dry it out until it falls off.  But if it doesn't fall of, I'd check with the vet to be sure there isn't an umbilical hernia forming.  If it has any wetness, the alcohol will burn.  So, then I'd try some type of antibiotic cream to be sure there is no infection setting in, but again, a call to the vet might be in order!

Love those tiny boobies!!

It seems dry but charms owner had mentioned she thought it looked quite long and may need taken off.

Its crazy! I miss little tiny baby Meadow already lol. Shes got so much more bold too, loves to try and climb all over me and lie in my lap. I'm going to have to start the "training" and boundaries now but its so cute im loathe to. Shes a good foal though, she picks up all feet, walks on halter sort of and is some what learning bite inhibition.

Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: Rocklone on September 01, 2016, 04:23:21 PM
Anna, its been sooo mixed here! Shes just been out in it all. The only time i bring her in is if it has been raining all day, or very sunny cause she gets too warm lol

Here is a new photo. She had the farrier for the first time today! She was perfect, picking up all her little feet as practiced. She did a few pulls which is only to be expected but farrier loved her.

I know you said it must include "Meadow" but....couldn't that just be a "call" name?  If so:

Rocklone Imperial Banner

Rocklone's Buckaroo Charm

Rocklone's Meadow Charm

Rocklone's Charming Meadow

Rocklone's Gift of the Meadow

Rocklone's Banner in the Meadow

Out of ideas -- I never was very good at this!   :(

Well she's been microchipped and paper filled in so she will have her passport soon - just need to wait for banner to get his amha status updated then I can Reg her there too. I need to get some photos of banner ASAP lol

She is such a good little foal, she's halter trained and leg trained and comes to call mostly. She Whinnnys when she sees me which melts me heart.

She does. Her head was the first thing Charms owner said about - she was just stunned at how pretty she is. Shes just perfect in every way :D

We have our first show on Sunday! It will be her first time in a box, and first time off my yard. In fact shes never even left the paddock/stable lol

I don't know much of whats good for shows or what you're supposed to have for breeding since my minis are just my pets and babies lol but I love meadow's head and face! All around I think she's so cute and dainty!
Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: dcwolcott on October 12, 2016, 03:01:54 PM
Nicely upright, she appears to have a nice hip and a pretty face.  Hard to see her neck with all that baby fuzz, but her head shape is lovely and her head set is nice, as well.

Personally, I can't wait to see her in the spring!  She should be awesome!
Title: Re: Meadow

I can't wait either. I think she might be a bit steep in the shoulder but as you say it's so hard to see under fluff

in her winter fuzz, she looks beautifully balanced, but it is hard to tell for sure.

Very balanced little Meadow. Looks like you shot this just as she was getting out of bed...has shavings stuck all over her! She does have the loveliest face, and a shapely neck. I'll be looking forward to seeing her hip, gaskin and hind leg angles when she's shed out. I agree about the shoulder comment as well. She looks like the cob-style horses I'm normally inclined to favor.

How does she move? Is she a hunter type mover, or more like a park horse?
Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: Rocklone on October 30, 2016, 06:17:31 PM
Her mum is a little straight through the hock and she's got that - she's basically her mum reincarnated but has her fathers nose lol

I'm not sure how i class her movement - I'm not really sure what a park horse is?
Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: Rocklone on November 11, 2016, 02:41:27 PM
Tied up for the first time. She didn't do to badly! A few pulls (which is why i only use bungee ropes for typing) and one rear that made her nearly loose her feet cause of the restriction, but she figured out pretty fast that she was going nowhere. Got her calmed, then groomed and feet picked out. Grooming her is futile, shes a troll doll at heart hahahaha

Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: Rocklone on December 20, 2016, 05:34:45 PM
She has not cared at all. There has been a few whickers through the walls but nothing i would class as stressful calling. She had a lie down mid day in her usual spot (aka on top of all the hay lol) and is currently sleeping again on the hay so shes not worried one bit! Charms had all her hay too and not box walking so again not panicked at all.

It also surprised me how much shes matured in the past few weeks. I still think of her a teeny tiny baby who can't possibly survive, but today i went in with carrot slices and she was biting them off and eating them totally normally like a horse would. A few weeks ago she just sort of nibbled with her front teeth then sucked it and was not entirely sure what to do! Where does the time go!

Still can't get a photo of her standing still for snot.

But...teeth!

Pretty teeth to go inside that pretty head, with the big doe eyes! How's she getting on? Seems like she has always been a bit grown up for her age. Does she act like a boss mare now? Or does everyone remind her she's just a weaner, and can't be boss until some other time?

That's pretty typical color for freshly clipped bay and even black, they turn a mousy grey/brown color when clipped.   When you clip you cut off the colored part of the hair shaft.   Some of her color will be back in just a few days.    Most find if they are showing and clip frequently, they don't lose as much color with subsequent clipping.

Yeah she's definitely bay but considering if she has  pangare :)

I swear she's grown hair back already on her face and it's REALLY light lol

Pangare is certainly a question mark.

Omg times escaped me again and it's now under two weeks to my first show and I have never even loaded meadow in a trailer. What if I get there and can't get her back in hahah! I may have to resort to picking her up

Major practice is needed over the next couple of weeks. Momma charm is coming too so I'm hoping she follows her on easy enough even though they are not the most bonded. I considered taking thriller cause she's very attached to him but thought I'd have more chance of charm calling to her as a mother and getting her to come on the box. Well, That's the theory.

ok! so horse box was no issue. Literally no issue.

The issue was a waterdrain in the road. I mean come on! Total overreaction to the point up going up and over. sigh.

But this was today:

She is LOVELY!!

Looking forward to hearing how she does both for you and against competition.  I think she'll do just fine and hold her own.

And she's not the first one I've heard of having issues with man-hole covers, LOL.

You know, it's hard to say, since there are differences in the American Shows and I'm sure what the English Shows want.  Is there somewhere we can look up the "standards" for the English Shows?

I think she's beautiful!
Title: Re: Meadow
Post by: Rocklone on April 28, 2017, 05:34:09 AM
Not really. English shows just go by correct actual conformation. We don't do different classes (like for different types of mini)

I think she's beautiful. And honestly everyone has an eye for different things they like to see. Over all I think she's well balanced.
Its hard to find a perfect horse!
I am excited to see how well she does, which I am sure she will!

All I can say is, she has no glaring faults, is very balanced, and isn't too extreme. She's the type that, when placed against a background where perspective doesn't give it away, would never be immediately pegged as a miniature.

She's definitely a credit to a well planned breeding. Congratulations, on her and the win!!

Just seen that post - thank you for a lovely lovely comment!

Meadows not taking so well to showing, so I've been getting the help of a local trainer cause I've never done it from scratch. So we've a few things to work on. Next week is our last show for the year and it's a big big one - so I hope she doesn't rear again lol

She got her papers in though so she's all legitimate and definitely banners offspring 😂

Here's a couple of photos from our last show. She got placed last because of her bad behaviour and poor expression. I think she was in season and it was very hot so I don't blame her but still lol

Well to be fair the judge was a donkey judge. She was horrifically inconsistent placing people all over the show in odd places. Even the donkeys were badly judged!

So Meadow and I went off to our first BIG show today. Proper mini show, with an actual mini judge, not just this local crap that have donkey judges!

WELL!! She was amazing. Just fab form. She took 2nd in a huge and very strong PROPER class - the winning filly was simple out of this world, so to be 2nd to her was...wow. To be second in this calabre of show at all was wow!!

Im just so so proud of my little first born. Here is a photo comp a very talented photographer at the show did...im in awe :)

Bit of a while since a meadow update. Shes now got to the point shes her mothers twin. In fact when they are walking to me i sometimes can't tell the difference until i see them closer and i sometimes do a double take in photos lol shes still a very sweet little mare and still oh so very independent. She doesn't bother much with the herd, so separation anxiety is not going to be a problem! Shes just so very like her mum in every way. She still has a thing for cats though, can't have a cat abut her lol. Maybe shes a stallion.

Well poor Meadows first show was not at all good. I was just about to go in to the ring when a stallion was allowed to get too close and he turned and kicked both back legs out at us. Thankfully i got 90% of the blow (ouch) but she did get a scrape. It was all such a rush i didn't even know what to do so i went on in and she placed 4th despite being a little traumatized. She didn't show well at all of course. Later she got 2nd thankfully, and was a bit better.  But my overwhelming feeling is that She just doesn't seem into it.

That being said...judges LOVE her. They just never place her any higher than 3rd or 2nd. Most say its because of her showing...as in her trot. She just doesn't get a good face on...she trots lovely, but her face is sour.

So with that i have been looking more into it and she has a tight hamstring on the left and a tight neck...so ive been given some massages and stretches to do. So we will see. But shes not going to be shown much more this year.

She is bloody gorgeous, a really nice horse, but she doesn't show that off.
