Indian Creeks Supper Sassy x Ushers Storm Duster
Day 300 is February 19, 2019. Sassy will be on barn cam at night. Link to barn cam , and phone number is in my signature below.
This will be our first Storm foal born, I am really looking forward to seeing what they produce! Maybe we will even get some spots!!
-
Ooh, our first Mare Stare announcement for 2019.
Please add a picture of each to the thread, not sure I know which ones they are.
-
FABULOUS! A mare to watch for 2019. I can't wait to see what they produce, and crossing my fingers for SPOTS!!
-
Good luck , I have a feeling there are plenty of spots on the way :)
-
Unfortunately, people think having a leopard in the mix you will get spots. Not so. Leopards are 50/50 heterozygous for patterning, and likely in this case momma is too. That means there is a 1 in 4 chance you get a solid offspring. Only using a homozygous in the mix will make sure the appaloosa shines through -- so snowcaps and fewspots are the true spot-makers.
I know, because it happened to me once early on when I started breeding appaloosas. Back then I had about every color leopard you could have -- before I really started studying the appaloosa genetics. Here's what made me do more research:
Here's momma - RJ's Pocahantas
Then daddy - Timberview's I C Spots
And baby - Castle Rocks Hidden Spots Wait N C
Needless to say, I was SHOCKED to get a completely solid bay colt!
After that, fewspots were my go-to's and I had several, but of course, couldn't let Spotty -- my buckskin leopard stallion go. He always seemed to give spots to me, although sometimes not to others that had breedings to him. Hard to explain to some people.
We know her last boy (Sulphuras Legacy Edition) threw several fewspot foals (must have a leopard or fewspot parent to make fewspots) so crossing my fingers Storm Duster carries on the tradition! ;pray ;pray
-
I know nothing about color and whats needed to produce color and spots. Looking at your pics Diane, I think I would have gone looking for another foal, wiped my eyes and thought I was dreaming :)
-
Yes, I have a love for Appaloosa!
I sure got a lot of LP/ LP foals the past 2 years. Wouldnt be sad to see Lp/ lp and n/ patrn1!!!
-
Yes, I have been so happy for you Holly, with what you've had in the past. You've had an appaloosa breeders dream! Hope we're cooking lots of SPOTS again.... or just a "few" !
Ryan, needless to say, it was a GREAT shock!
-
I am really looking forward to my first Storm foals. He has such a cute head and nice movement. I feel he is a step up in quality , and hope it shows on this years foals!
-

Sassy is getting big now, past 250 days, lots of foal movement.
Looking forward to turning on barn cams come mid February!
-
Can't wait!

Roughly 4 weeks till foal watch starts!
( day 300)
Patiently impatiently waiting!
-
I'm with you !!!

Sassy, almost 270 days

Such a pretty girl, and looking good!

Day 290! Foal watch is almost here!!
Sassy has just started a tiny udder.
Shes looking good, still lots of foal movement.
-
Day 293
Still no udder to speak of. Lots of belly though!
-
Shes looking great Holly
-
Keep working those SPOTS on that little one!! She looks fabulous!!
-
Thanks yall!
Sassy started a small udder last night , day 299...
Wont be much longer now.
-
YEAH!!!! Bring it on, Sassy!
-
Lol, well that was short lived!😄 udder back to 2 deflated flaps.
But better burnt than raw , so o keep watching and waiting ❤
-
That's fine, we'll keep watching for sure!!!
-
Day 306.
Still no udder at all. Just a little bit of butt rubbing here and there. Nothing exciting going on.
-
Well tomorrow is day 310.
Sassy still has zero udder development. Shes doing things a lot different from last time. Her vulva is a little bit relaxed, and getting red inside.
Her belly is no longer dropped.
-
How about a standard picture from the tail end looking forward. Looks like baby has to do some moving forward of center to start getting lined up. Such a pretty momma!
-
Day 310.
No changes today
-
Making progress. Not as wide as I thought, so maybe she's starting the line-up process. She's such a pretty girl!
-
Some pics from today.
Precious is wide. So is Pepper.
-
Aw, yes! They both look so good!! Love it.
COOK THOSE SPOTS, LITTLE MOMMAS!!
-
Day 312. Maybe the start of an udder... we will see😀
-
Day 314. Start of an udder...finally!
-
Good momma!!
-
Well done Sassy :)
-
Day 317... sassy vulva getting looser and finally started this udder. Good progress overnight!
-
Looking good! Can't wait! Bring on those SPOTS!!
-
Calmly munching in a beautifully clean stall! That won't last ;D
-
Day 319 huge udder changes today!!
Ph 8.5
Definitely on foal watch now!
-
:) ;pray
-
Sassys udder much bigger now. Lots of off white milk. Ph 7.8
Almost there!
-
Praying for a safe and uneventful delivery of a healthy, SPOTTED, little one. ;pray ;pray ;pray ;pray
-
Sassy same today. Long night last night and preparing for another.
Ohh so excited to see this wee one❤💙
-
Camera isn't working for me today. Just checked and I get basically a blank page on mare Watchers, I was in Google Chrome.
-
Checked just now and it's working in Google Chrome. She's just doing her nibbling for us. Nothing exciting, which is just fine!
Cook those SPOTS!
-
:D
Working with my kindle today. I'll check the desktop later.
-
Well after the excitement of the other day, sassy has went backwards. Milk is back to clear from cloudy white.
Ph back to 8.5 milk barely sticky. Udder much smaller again.
-
She must be doing a "double-check" on cooking those SPOTS to make sure they're perfect.
Good girl, Sassy!
-
Yep. I figure the next time she hears up will be the real deal.
Today is day 325. She foaled on day 324 last time.
-
Couldn't get the pic up this morning, but see her now. She's definitely getting wider, and eating well!
Cook those SPOTS Sassy. We're all waiting excitedly!! ;pray
-
;pray Im at work so will lo on when I get home and have a look :)
-
HA! Not much to look at except Sassy's "bum" as she usually has her head in the feed tray. But you do get a nice look at those SPOTS on her!
Pretty momma! ;D
-
Day 328
So looks like Sassy might be headed the right direction again.
-
Yes, looks good! And for the first time she doesn't have her head in the loft eating! Just standing quietly in the corner.
Can't wait! ;pray ;pray
-
Her udder is still going down a lot during turn out so I think we still have some time left.
-
Geez, back eating! Well she'll be prepared for the hard work ahead of her.
Happily waiting to see her present! ;pray
-
Me too , all these extra spots ;pray
-
Hows Pepper and Precious coming along Holly ?
-
Other mares doing great approaching day 260 and 265
Sassy vulva very relaxed tonight. Udder about the same, still clear thin semi sticky fluid. Ph 8.5
-
A familiar scene -- head in the loft eating! Looking good! Cook those spots well! ;pray
-
A new scene! Sassy actually laying down sternal. Looks good!
-
Semi clear milk, now super sticky. Ph 8.5 vulva very relaxed... definitely looking close!
-
That's GREAT news!! ;pray ;pray
-
Starting to turn cloudy white. Ph 7.8
Ohh the wait lol
My aching eyeballs, cant be much longer😀
-
;pray ;pray ;pray
-
;pray :) ;pray
-
Ph is now 7.5!
-
Good job, Sassy! Keep it coming! ;pray ;pray
-
Day 335.
Ph is 7.2.
Dropping slowly. All seems well so I am happy. Impatient, but happy!
-
Well, I agree, I'm a little impatient too, but so happy she's doing well. Can't wait to see this surprise - hopefully with lots of SPOTS or no SPOTS -- as a few spot! ;pray ;pray
Down sternal and resting. Good girl, Sassy.
-
Day 336
Ph at 6.8 this morning!
-
Almost there! Come on Sassy! ;pray ;pray
Up and moving around this morning. Looking good!
-
Just checked in and she certainly loves her dinner :)
-
Testing 6.4!!!
-
Testing 6.2
Might be in early labor!!
-
She's mostly been standing in the "front" corner when I've been watching, but occasionally I catch her eating.
I'll have to see if my kindle will stream the feed, but my battery is about dead, so may not be able to watch long.
-
Welcome to the world little Filly!
Sianas Sweet Sangria !
-
Can't get the site to open so I can see them. Tried late yesterday with the same negative results over and over.
But welcome littleSangria!! Sassy, where are the SPOTS???
This happened to me once, out of 2 loud leopards a solid bay colt. Those appaloosa genetics can produce a solid foal 25% of the time, but she's adorable! CONGRATULATIONS!!
I do see striped hooves, so all is not missing. And here's a picture of a "solid" appy foal born completely black at birth. The picture is from 2 years later.
-
I am not sure if the stripes are from silver or appy. She does have appy eyes. No mottled skin.
-
FINALLY the site is working and I can see them both! She's very pretty and eating. What a mean little thing when nursing. She's making momma a bit uncomfortable with all the bumping and pulling. Sassy keeps acting like she's going to nip that pretty little butt if she doesn't calm down. Too funny!
-
She is fiesty!
-
Yes she is. Tried to see them this morning, and can't get the site to open for me, but as of yesterday, she's sure a spitfire!
As for the mottling, I think you will see this develop in the next few weeks or so. They are seldom born with the level of mottling we're used to seeing.
She's so cute!
-
Sorry about camera, it went off whole I was sleeping, so i didnt get it back off until I woke up.
Today's pics, shes unfolding nicely!!
-
A "no go" again this morning.
She's a cutie for sure!
-
Momma eating, and little Sangria sound asleep in the middle of the staff.
Rest well, pretty girl!
-
Congrats on the arrival Holly :)
Lovely filly !!
