I bought a cheap pedometer. I mean really cheap, under $5 with s/h through ebay; it counts steps, calculates mileage and calories burned. It'll just be interesting to see the number of steps I take in a day. Not sure how accurate it is, but it'll still be interesting.
I put it on before leaving the house to go feed my bum calves: that's 175 steps over the calf pen and back to the house.
Been curious for awhile, just how many steps do I take in an average day. If this little experiment works, I may consider getting a better quality one. [It jumped 8 steps while I was sitting here looking at it, scrolling through the features, so must be really cheap. ??? ]

1969 steps to get half-way through morning chores. I go to the feed room, mix up everyone's breakfast, get them all in their stalls eating, then come back to the house to add water to the pellets for afternoon mush, (so, this is where I am, half-way through); then go back out and let everyone out of stalls and put out hay or put them on pasture.
The pedometer says the 1969 steps is about 3/4 mile. I roughly figured my steps at 2', based on 6 steps to get across half of our 25' wide house (so 6 steps in 12').

OMG! It registered 200 steps while I was on the 4-wheeler, I knew our yard was rough, but didn't think it was that bad. ;D

You'll probably get sick of this, heck I might get sick of this, but I'll probably comment for a day or two at least.
Morning chores, 3896 steps (including the 300-400 steps it counted while I was on the 4-wheeler), 1.475 miles, and 252 calories.
252 calories?!? No wonder I can't lose weight, all my walking doesn't burn that many calories for all I eat in the day. I'm a huge snacker, can't help myself; I try to keep healthier snacks on hand, but being how far out I live, I run out of the good stuff.

Evening chores are much shorter, as it's just hay. So, 1451 steps tonight.

This made me laugh :) I hope you got it worked out :)

It's interesting that the bumpy ride on the 4-wheeler registers as steps.
I've been curious for quite some time as just how far I walk to do chores twice daily.

I liked the "It moved 8 steps while I was sitting here looking at it" :)
Me too, Ive often wondered how many ks/miles ive done in a day. Im one of those people that sets off to do something, then remembers what Ive forgotten, so off I walk back up to the shed to get it. :)

I am thoroughly enjoying this thread! Keep us posted. I love smiling and I'm doing a lot of it while reading this!

3255 steps for the first half of morning chores, we ate lunch in the middle and I think I forgot to clip it back on my belt before going out to let them out to graze. I'll put it back on and see how many it racks up while I bring them in and clean a stall or two.

Had a laugh at your pedometer antics Chanda, especially the fact that it seems to add extra steps when it feels like it. But I often wonder how far we all walk (or did walk in our active days) when doing all our horsey chores alongside everything else that needs doing daily. Looking forward to hearing more of Mr P's activities. ;D

I'll probably wear it more regularly after I get through this week. I have a lot of distractions this week, so keep forgetting to grab it when I head out. I might have to wear it when we move cows, so we can see how many steps it registers while I'm moving cows with the 4-wheeler. ;o

Ha!! ^-^

Hows it going ? Are you shocked at how many steps you actually do in a day ? :)
-
I've been preoccupied, and keep forgetting to put it on.
Had a horrible sore throat yesterday, so did very little.
-
Hope you are feeling better :)
