I think.
I took a few pics of Bonny's foal today, she's 8 days old. Our weather has been sucky, so they've mostly been in the stall; but she's been out a few times, including today, and I got a few new pics.
-
More pics...
-
All I can say is....
🥰🥰🥰
-
She?s beautiful!
-
Thank you.
I'm still in awe of her tininess. While all mini foals are small, when the mare is 38", this little one is tiny.
-
She is just a doll! So petite and tiny, but with awesome long legs for her size. I just love the one of her peeking around the door~!

With our crappy weather, I've left her and Bonny to bond, so she's fairly shy.
-
I so want to make her call name either "Jorga" or "Rain"; but she is so little I've been calling her "Little Boop", and I really don't want that to stick, as there are too many "B" names here as it is, especially in the barn... Bonny, Baybe, Bliss, Belle plus Brie, the dog. [Bob, the house cat; B2, the house cat (although we call him Tooey).]
-
LOL !! Tell yourself she's a "little Raindrop" not a boop! LOL

I'll try that. Thinking "Rainy", cause I can't seem to keep things simple; but we'll see how it goes.
-
I just said the "little" since you were already using it, but Rainy is just perfect, too. If necessary, wean yourself with "Little Rainy" first, then go to just Rainy! LOL
-
Yes, "little" may help.
Now I need another name...
-
I know, for that gorgeous boy! What I can see is VERY handsome!!
-
A couple pictures today of the foals, sorry I'm so remiss in taking pictures.
-
Topper really did himself proud with these two!!

She's an escape artist. I have some wide spaced panels, and she can step right through them, and does. She's out right now. I'll just wait and put her in when I do chores in 1/2 hour or so.
-
My little escapee...
on her way out
3 on her way back in
and thinking about out again.
-
What a little cutie!!!! Great pictures!

What a little cutie!!!! Great pictures!
Thank you.
I've not been very hands on with her, yet, but I just love her, she's so tiny compared to the previous foals out of my tall mares.
-
I hope she stays small for you, she is such a cutie, and the little ones are great fun -- especially when you see size doesn't matter -- the little ones sometimes have the biggest personalities!!

She certainly has a big personality, at least what I can see from a distance. ;) I need to get these two little heathens tamed down, but I'm been letting them be babies (and been a bit lazy, as well).
-
Rain has an attitude...
I've been putting out a mix of senior and FoalLac pellets for the babies, in a separate dish from either mare. The foals have primarily been sharing from the mares' dishes, more recently Quigley started eating the foal mix, and today Rain decided she wanted the foal dish and bucked up and kicked out at Quigley, sending him back to his momma's dish. Guess I need to find another foal dish and put out yet another dish of baby food.
-
For sure! Those foals are not good at sharing unless momma taught them. I had one mare that was happy to share her food with her baby AFTER she ate first!!

They each share with Mom just fine, and Bonny will share with either foal; but Rain doesn't want to share with Quigley.
-
Rain finally got her pedicure today. She was a bit better behaved than Quigley was. We had a short leading lesson while we were at it, too.
-
All good!!
-
Im about 4 months late, But congratulations on both foals Chanda :)

Thank you, Ryan. You didn't miss too much, as I've let them be little heathens, and they have no manners. ;)

It's official, the kids got their papers back, today.
"Hell Coulee Toppers Jorga Rain", smoky black solid filly.
-
Great little group you have going there!! Congrats on the papers! That's an achievement during this pandemic. A friend in New York has had nothing but difficulty getting papers and has waited over 5 months on some of hers!

Man, that sucks.
I sent out a hay sample for testing, and it's not arrived at the lab yet, it's been 10 days (well, hadn't as of first thing yesterday), maybe I"m expecting too much; but my first sample arrived in like 3-4 days and I had my results within a week.
-
I had a package coming from WA to NC just before Thanksgiving. Left WA on 23 Nov., sat in Missoula until 19 December, arrived today 22 December. 😬
Guess that explains why I saw something last week that I'd never seen before:
"Now hiring, apply inside" signage in front of the post office. When I asked about it, he said none of the recent three hires had even worked 3 days. The last one walked in with a list of things he "couldn't" do and quit 4 hours into his shift. "Too hard" he said as he 🚶♂️ walked out. 🙄
-
I remember a time when EVERYONE wanted a post office job because it was a government job with full government benefits and vacations, etc. Hard to believe you'd quit when starting pay is over $21.77 per hour on average. I could do quite a bit for that kind of money as someone starting out! LOL
"Too hard"......it's the generation of lazy and entitled with no work ethic, so no hard work allowed! LOL
-
Holy crap, $21/hour starting out is an excellent wage. The national minimum wage is much below that, although I have no idea what it currently is, as I've not been in the "real" workforce for years, we're self-employed and lucky if we see an actual wage.
-
Well, I think there is a chance that Rain is nursing on Bonny. Bonny has a bit of a bag, I noticed it yesterday, when I was trimming her hooves, and it does have milk. I had them separated for 3 months, maybe it was 4 months; and while they were in adjoining corrals, Rain should not have been able to nurse.
If I can figure out a way to do it, I'm out of corrals, I may have to move either Rain or Bonny for longer so Bonny can dry up. No wonder she's not gained more needed weight, if she is indeed nursing her naughty daughter.
-
Naughty girl Rain!! Big momma will fix it so you can't be bad!!!
-
Rain has been looking like a big matted, black Q-tip. Still a bit early to clip, as we still get some good temperature drops; but I brushed her this morning and cut out some mats... Now, she looks like a moth-eaten black Q-tip. No pics, hopefully soon. I think these two foals could be my best so far, but they aren't mature yet, so things could change.
-
oOOOOOHHHHHhh, that makes it even harder to wait to see them!!
-
These two are the slimmest I've raised, usually our hay tends to make them hay bellied; but I fed these two chopped tim/alf and TC Tim balance cubes in addition to our homegrown hay, plus TC senior, and they seem to be slimmer without being skinny.
-
I was always one who liked the "slim" look, and while brood mares didn't have that look, my show horses did, and the stallions did. I'm a great fan of it. Can't wait to see them!! ;D
-
She still looks like a dirty q-tip, and I haven't brushed her lately, so she's a bit scruffy, but she has a cute head.
-
Dirty Q-tip......maybe. But a VERY pretty one!!
-
In person, you can see the horrible job I did of cutting mats. Hope to get her brushed up after we are done with branding. Will also need to trim a few horses too, as I have 5 due this week.
